The working modes of the M5 extender hybrid system are:
1. When the state of charge of the battery reaches the preset maximum, the engine is shut down and the battery provides power for the motor.
2. When the battery works to the state of charge to reach a preset range, the engine starts, and the engine provides power to the motor on the one hand, and is used for battery charging on the other hand.
3. Under the working conditions of low load for a long time, the 1 and 2 modes are actively switched through the control strategy of engine start/shutdown, so as to ensure that the engine always works in the best efficiency range.
Different from ordinary range extender hybrid vehicles, the M5 is equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder engine specially built for hybridization, and at the same time, the optimization of the generator is done, first of all, it is to increase the compression ratio, through the DCVVT intake and exhaust valve variable timing, control the opening and closing timing of the intake valve and exhaust valve, so that the effective compression ratio of the engine is less than the effective expansion ratio. The compression ratio reaches 15:1, the thermal efficiency reaches 41%, and as a generator, it means that a tank of oil can generate more electricity.
The maximum power generation power of 75 kilowatts and the power battery loaded with 40 kWh of electricity, the full power and full oil state can choose the combination of automatic + energy-saving mode, mainly for the rear drive, supplemented by four wheel drive, to meet the actual needs of low energy consumption and long endurance.
And the M5 four-wheel drive version is equipped with two brands, two completely different motors, of which the front motor is built by Dongfeng Power Drive Company, which belongs to the AC asynchronous motor, characterized by high torque, 420Nm can bring faster acceleration feeling, and the rear is a permanent magnet synchronous motor, from Huawei DriveONE, compared to the AC motor, the stability is better, not easy to overheat, the two motors have a comprehensive torque of 720Nm, and the acceleration of 100 kilometers takes only 4.8 seconds.
Advantages of the Q&A M5 Hybrid System:
1, quiet, starting torque is large, the same as pure electric models. If the charging conditions are superior, you can always drive without refueling, and the cost of use is lower.
2, cost savings, compared to other hybrid models, range extender hybrid less gearbox, transmission shaft, cost will be reduced. And it has its own generator, don't worry about the mileage.

Disadvantages of the Q&C M5 hybrid system:
1, the overall structure is more complex, the cost is relatively high, the price advantage is not large.
2, in the case of high-speed cruising, it is necessary to convert the mechanical energy output by the engine into electrical energy, and then the motor converts the electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive the wheels, and some of the efficiency will be lost after the energy conversion, so the fuel consumption of high-speed driving will increase.
