Deng Shiru, a native of Huaining, Anhui, whose original name was Yan, the character Shiru, the number of stubborn Bo, the baishan people, because of the avoidance of the name of Emperor Renzong of the Qing Dynasty, so the character line. Born in the door of the cold soldier, the character of his ancestors who "subliminal virtue is not dazzling" and the "learning and practicing" of his studies and the untamed character of Xiao'an have a subtle contribution to his growth. Around the age of 20, he began a lifelong travel career, wandering the rivers and lakes, looking for teachers and friends everywhere. His life, accompanied by hard work and self-encouragement, poured into the whole life content of art is almost the word "social travel".

He once worked in the Jiangning great collector Mei Wei for 8 years, "every day is refreshing, research ink is full of plates, until the night is exhausted, cold and summer do not quit." Soon after, he was awarded by Cao Wenjie, Jin Fuzhi and others, and the title of the book was Dazhen.

In the fifty-fifth year of Qianlong (1790), on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Qianlong Emperor, Hubu Shangshu Cao Wen entered Kyoto in June and invited Deng Shi to do the same. In autumn, passing through Shandong, I climbed Mount Tai to see. After entering Beijing, Deng Shiru was famous for his calligraphy.

In the fifty-sixth year of Qianlong (1791), he served as an aide to Bi Yuan, the governor of the Two Lakes, for three years. Zhang Huiyan and Bao Shichen both studied calligraphy from him. But he does not seek to be heard, does not seek glory, is not moved by foreign objects, does not enter the career, has a stubbornness that does not want kitsch to be clever, compares himself with stone, uses stubborn stones to compare himself, and always maintains the true color of cloth, which is a pure artist's self-reliance and free "leisure" life. His good friend, Yao Nai, a member of the Tongcheng school of prose, once wrote him such a couplet:

Eight or nine huts fishing rain and cultivating tobacco must believe that the rich are not as good as the poor and the lowly;

Bamboo book thousands of words irrigation flowers brewing yizhian self-pleasure leisure self-yiqing.

When life reaches this level, the depth and longevity of art come into being.

Deng Shiru was a giant calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, specializing in four-body calligraphy, and his calligraphy art is an outstanding monument in the history of mainland calligraphy. He first learned Li Si and Li Yangbing, and later learned the "Zen Guo Mountain Stele", "Sangong Mountain Stele", "Tianfa Divine Stele", Shi Gu Wen, Yi Instrument Knowledge, Han Stele, etc.

His seal book is vertical and horizontal, and the font is micro square, close to the Qin Han Wadang and the Han Stele. He used the Lifa as a seal, broke through the fence of the jade fence for thousands of years, creatively integrated the Lishu pen method into it, boldly used the long sharp edge to be soft, and pressed the undulating, which greatly enriched the pen used in the seal book. In particular, in his later years, the seal book, with its round and thick lines, was majestic and vast, and was perfected in the realm, creating a typical example of the Seal Book of the Qing Dynasty and making immortal contributions to the development of the art of seal writing.

Lishu is from the Han stele, the body is tight, the appearance is rich and strong, and the atmosphere is magnificent, which also makes the Qing Dynasty Lishu a new one.

His calligraphy did not start from Tang Kai, but traced back to the source, directly taking the Fa Wei stele, using more square brushes, strokes to make the transformation implied the meaning, the knot body did not use the horizontal light vertical weight, left low right high to take the method of flattery and seeking peace, ancient Mao hun simple, incompatible with the style of the customary pavilion, showing the spirit of courage to explore.

Comparatively speaking, his cursive writing is not as profound as that of the seal, mainly absorbing the Jin and Tang cao methods, and the penmanship is slow and ethereal.

Looking at its four-body calligraphy, the seal book has achieved the greatest achievement, followed by italics, lines, and grasses. Deng Shiru was also a seal engraver, and founded the "Deng School" in the Anhui School. He entered the seal with a small seal, emphasizing the penmanship, the style is majestic and simple, strong and graceful, and the calligraphy seal engraving complements each other. Deng Shiru's seal has the characteristics of "running horses in sparse places, but not ventilating in secret places". Shiren had a very high evaluation of Deng Shiru's calligraphy, listing his seals and lishu as "divine qualities", calling him "all four bodies are exquisite, and the country is the first".
