Recently, the New Energy Vehicle Data of the United States in February has also come out, and the overall situation is as follows:

In February, a total of 59,554 new energy vehicles (44,148 BEVs and 15,406 PHEV) were sold in the U.S. market, an increase of 68.9% year-on-year, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles (LDV) was 5.66%.

Hybrids sold a total of 59,564 HEVs (15,763 vehicles and 43,801 LT) in the U.S. market in February, up 10.2% year-over-year. Fuel cell companies sold a total of 241 FCEVs last month (431 in 2022).

From the overall data, the United States has sold 112,829 new energy vehicles in 2022, and with the rise in oil prices, the demand growth of this piece is more obvious in the US market.

Part 1: Overview of the U.S. market

1) The situation of new energy vehicles

The sales figure of nearly 60,000 new energy vehicles in the United States in February increased by about 6,000 units from 53,400 units in January. From the perspective of specific actual sales, Model 3 and Model Y dominate the sales of new energy vehicles, and the monthly sales of these two cars are basically about 25,000 units.

· Tesla Model Y 185,000 units in January and 21,000 units in February

· Tesla Model 3 136,000 units in January and 11,000 units in February

· Ford Mustang January Mach-E 2370 units, February 2,001 units

2) The case of hybrid models

The U.S. market sold a total of 59,564 hybrid models (15,763 vehicles and 43,801 LT) in February, an increase of 10.2% year-on-year, and this rate has slowed. The main problem is that Toyota accounts for 63.7% of total hybrid vehicle sales.

3) Penetration rate of new energy vehicles

In the United States of new energy vehicles, the car penetration rate is the highest, LT and LDV are slower, and it is necessary to wait for the electric pickup truck to be delivered, and this piece will be greatly improved.

At present, the oil price in the United States is also at a high level, and the sales volume of this round of new energy vehicles and strong mixtures is constantly climbing, which is also a historical opportunity under specific oil price time conditions, and the subsidies in the US market have not yet begun.

Part 2: Battery production planning in the United States

In the United States, the contribution of traditional American car companies is relatively small, and with the opening of battery factories in the United States by Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Toyota and Volkswagen, the increase in this part is continuous and determined. At present, with the expansion of pure electric vehicles, it is mainly supported by Tesla's gigafactory.

Coupled with the investment of some other companies in the United States, the overall battery production capacity in the United States, the future growth curve is also very steep.

At present, the emerging electric vehicle manufacturer in the United States, Rivian, has also announced that it has begun to use LFP batteries, and Lucid also needs a large number of batteries to support the highly valued American startup's delivery in 2022-2023. In fact, the situation abroad and abroad is similar, and there are not many battery companies that can really deliver in large quantities. It can be understood that the United States also lacks a continuous, high-quality supply of power batteries.

brief summary:

Tracking the development of new energy vehicles in the United States and the expansion of power battery capacity, in fact, and China's comparability is relatively strong, under the inaction of the US Trump administration, in fact, the United States in the field of electric vehicles (except Tesla) has lost its leading position. In the era of smart cars, with the entry of Amazon and Apple, the competition between China and the United States in the field of smart cars will be more intense.
