Wen Wulin, deputy chief physician of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, explained that there are four stages of bronchial foreign bodies, the first stage is the period of severe airway reaction, the child has just sucked the foreign body into it will cough violently, after coughing it will enter the calm stage, it looks nothing abnormal, it seems to be good, but when there is a purring sound in the throat, it has entered the next stage - the pneumonia phase.
Parents are often deceived by the superficial calm, unaware that the child's lungs are quietly changing, and then continue to develop, that is, the lung abscess period, there will be life danger.
"The second stage is the most easily ignored, we all think that the child is better, in fact, the condition is covered up, when the child came to the hospital, it has developed to between the second and third stages, there is pneumonia." Attending physician Shen Xueliang said.
Ma Ruixia's team, the chief specialist in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, decided to perform foreign body removal for the child using an advanced visual rigid bronchoscope. Subsequently, under the guidance of Professor Ma Ruixia, Wen Wulin operated the bronchoscope and took out the foreign body in the child's bronchi twice, which were two watermelon seeds, and the whole operation process was less than half an hour.
After the operation, the child was left in the hospital for pneumonia treatment and recovered quickly.
It is reported that this operation fills the gap in Ningxia endoscopic hard bronchial foreign body surgery.
Wen Wulin said that most of the tracheal foreign bodies occur in children, especially in children under 5 years old, of which peanuts, melon seeds, beans, candy and so on are the most common.
Wen Wulin reminds parents not to give their children bits and pieces as toys, and to put nuts and other small snacks out of the child's reach as much as possible.
In addition, when the child eats, the parents must accompany them, and do not make the child laugh or cry when eating, so as to prevent choking cough and inhale the food into the trachea.
