The Volkswagen Group is on track to integrate the ME3.0 charging system upgrade into Enyaq

Skoda has announced a software update for the MEB models in its Enyaq series. Called the ME3, it includes improvements in range and charging performance, just like Volkswagen's base E3.0 update. But it also tweaked some of the much-criticized displays, making significant software improvements.

Skoda has been using the new ME3 software version in enyaq Coupé iV since it recently began production, and it will also be used for all new Enyaq iV. According to Skoda, enyaq iV, which has already been delivered to customers, will receive a new software level through a free update service during a reseller visit in the second half of 2022.

Volkswagen introduced the E3.0 update into production at its Zwickau plant in December 2021. So far, these two Enyaq derivatives are the only MEB models in Europe that have not been manufactured in Zwickau.

For Enyaq models with 62 kWh batteries (net 58 kWh), the updated peak DC charging power is increased to up to 120 kW, while the 82 kWh battery (net 77 kWh) has a DC charging power of up to 135 kW. However, Skoda differs from Volkswagen in terms of charging time: although according to Volkswagen, the time to charge to 80% is reduced from 38 minutes to 29 minutes, while Skoda stipulates 35 minutes.

Also new is a "battery care mode" that customers can activate through a central infotainment display. According to Skoda, this will only charge the battery up to 80% during the next charge. The program is also designed to reduce dc charging speed and maximum charging power to avoid power spikes. "These measures are similar to the 'eco-model' on smartphones, helping to save batteries and extend their useful life," Skoda wrote. Battery heaters are also said to improve charging performance and power output, and now it is controlled differently. This is to allow the drive battery to enter an ideal temperature window faster and stay longer.

These measures should also increase the achievable range. In the announcement, however, Skoda only mentioned Enyaq Coupé's data – which makes little sense, as Coupé will only be delivered with ME3 software. In the manual, although the WLTP range remains the same. However, Volkswagen still talked about the E.30's software update range increased by 50 kilometers, which should also be possible in winter temperatures.

In addition, the charging schedule in the "Charging" menu in infotainment and in the route guide has also been adjusted. Charging and mileage graphs now also include a display of destinations and necessary charging stations. A new "Add" button is said to allow users to arrange alternative charging stations in the navigation system. Skoda writes: "For all planned charging stations, the remaining battery capacity and expected charging time are detailed. ”

Another innovation requested by the customer is that the digital cockpit displays the charging status of the battery as a percentage in addition to the corresponding fully charged symbol. The charge level will also be displayed in the head-up display in the future. Other changes shown in the digital cockpit and head-up display are related to the representation of objects around the vehicle and the three-dimensional representation of the distance to the destination.
