As of February 15, SAIC Motor, China FAW, Guangzhou Automobile Group, Dongfeng Group, Changan Automobile, Geely Automobile, BYD and other car companies announced production and sales data for January 2022. Under the high sales base in December 2021, the sales volume of many car companies showed a downward trend from the previous month, but most of them showed a year-on-year increase. In addition, compared with joint venture brands, independent brands continued the high growth trend in 2021 in January.
According to the announcement, SAIC's vehicle production and sales in January were 467834 and 455552 units, up 8.71% and 13.02% year-on-year, respectively. Among them, in addition to SAIC-GM, the production and sales of joint venture brands such as SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM-Wuling showed a significant increase year-on-year. SAIC's own brand performance was also eye-catching, with SAIC Maxus and SAIC passenger car sales increasing by 25.20% and 18.02% respectively year-on-year.

In January, GAC Group's vehicle production and sales were 218613 units and 237232 units, up 13.96% and 9.16% year-on-year, respectively. Among them, the production and sales of the joint venture brands GAC Honda and GAC Toyota increased by 1.11% and 11.25% respectively year-on-year, but the sales of GAC FCA and GAC Mitsubishi fell by 31.06% and 29.54% respectively year-on-year. GAC Group's own brand performance is also outstanding, GAC passenger car sales increased by 6.29% year-on-year, GAC Aean sales increased by 117.93% year-on-year.

In January, dongfeng group's vehicle production and sales were 278331 units and 303649 units, up 0.51% and 10.01% year-on-year, respectively. Among them, sino-Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Honda, Dongfeng Dongfeng Automobile, Dongfeng Infiniti and other joint venture brands have increased year-on-year in sales. However, Dongfeng passenger car sales in January increased by 189.11% year-on-year.

In January, Changan Automobile's vehicle production and sales were 247484 units and 277244 units, up 9.23% and 10.03% year-on-year, respectively. Among the joint venture brands, Changan Ford and Changan Mazda had the opposite situation in January, with Changan Ford's sales falling by 17.48% year-on-year and Changan Mazda's sales increasing by 67.69% year-on-year. The sales volume of Changan's own brands increased by 12.59% year-on-year.

In January, Great Wall Motor's vehicle production and sales were 111318 and 111778 units, down 19.35% and 19.59% year-on-year, respectively, which is also a self-owned brand car company with a large year-on-year decline.

BYD continued the high growth trend in 2021, with BYD's vehicle production and sales in January being 94,101 units and 95,422 units, up 94.62% and 125.05% year-on-year, respectively.

In January 2022, China FAW produced a total of 290371 vehicles and sold 311508 vehicles. Among them, the Hongqi brand produced 37,758 vehicles, an increase of 60.9% year-on-year; sold 42,158 vehicles, an increase of 29.6% year-on-year, a record high. In the joint venture segment, FAW-Volkswagen produces 181573 vehicles and sells 182977 vehicles, while FAW Toyota produces 40,964 vehicles and sells 51,741 vehicles.
Geely Automobile, an autonomous passenger car manufacturer, saw its total sales decline year-on-year in January. In January, Geely Automobile's production and sales volume was 146,380 units, down 6% year-on-year.

On the whole, the performance of independent brands in January 2022 was better, and the sales of most manufacturers achieved positive growth; the performance of the joint venture camp was differentiated, some brands achieved high growth, and some brands achieved year-on-year sales.
