Take stock of the geographical straits of Asia
Turkish Strait: Located between the Asian and European parts of Turkey, it is a strait between Europe and Asia. It includes three parts of the Bosphorus Strait in the east, the Sea of Marmara in the middle, and the Dardanelles Strait in the west, also known as the Black Sea Strait. It is 375 km long. Among them, the Bosphorus is about 30 kilometers long, 0.8-2.4 kilometers wide, only 750 meters at its narrowest point, about 80 meters at its deepest point, and only 27.5 meters at its shallowest point. The Dardanelles are 65 km long, 1.3–7.5 km wide and 57–70 m deep. The Sea of Marmara is about 250 km long from east to west, 70 km wide from north to south, covers an area of 11,000 square kilometers, and has a maximum depth of 1,333 meters. The Turkish Strait was originally an isthmus between Europe and Asia, which was formed by the collapse of the strata and the submergence of the sea. Due to the low salt content (18‰) and small specific gravity of the Black Sea seawater, the surface water of 10-20 meters flows to the Mediterranean Sea; the Mediterranean seawater has a large salt content (30 ‰), the specific weight is large, and the water at the bottom flows to the Black Sea. The Turkish Strait is the only sea artery connecting the Black Sea-Aegean-Mediterranean Sea, and its economic and military status is very important. In 1973, Turkey built a bridge across the Bosphorus in the city of Istanbul at the northern tip of the Strait, making it a major land transport link between the two continents of Asia and Europe.
