The Pastoral Area of Inner Mongolia is the largest pastoral area in the mainland. It stretches from Daxing'anling in the east to the Ejina Gobi in the west, with an area of more than 880,000 square kilometers and a grassland area of 1.32 billion mu, representing the breeds of three hippotamus and three river cattle.

Xinjiang Pastoral Area is the second largest pastoral area in mainland China, with a grassland area of 1.2 billion mu. The main livestock breeds are: fine wool sheep, lambskin sheep, Altay big tail sheep, Hotan sheep, Ili horses, camels and so on.

Tibet Pastoral Area is the largest alpine meadow grassland livestock area in the mainland, with a grassland area of about 800 million mu, ranking third in the country. Due to the high and cold natural conditions, the quality of grassland is better in the mountain valleys in southeast Tibet, and the main breeds of livestock are Tibetan yak, Tibetan sheep, Tibetan horses, etc.
