The name of "Brother Tao" in everyone's mouth is Wang Tao, and he is the deputy director of the EMU maintenance workshop of Harbin EMU Depot of China Railway Harbin Bureau Group Co., Ltd. In the past 25 years, he has won the locomotive medal, the whole road technical expert, "Longjiang craftsman" and other honors for his outstanding contributions to EMU maintenance, technical research, talent training, etc. In his heart, guarding the safe and stable operation of the "Snow Flying Dragon" on the black soil is his heavy responsibility and unshirkable responsibility.

Rooted in the scene to practice a strong skill

Heilongjiang Province is located in the northernmost part of the motherland, with cold winters and vast snow.

In 2002, Wang Tao graduated from Heilongjiang Railway Senior Technical School and came to 3Trees Depot as an electrical fitter. From the 25B bus to the 25T bus, it took him less than two years to become familiar with the various principles and structures of the vehicle and become the chief inspector of the section.

In 2012, on the eve of the opening of the Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway, Wang Tao participated in the training and stepped into the spacious and bright EMU carriage for the first time. Seeing the trees outside the window sweeping backwards at a relative speed of 300 kilometers per hour, Wang Tao secretly decided: we must let the high-speed rail run safely and smoothly in the "alpine forbidden area".

In the winter of 2012, the Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway was put into operation. In the harsh winter of Heilongjiang, the water is poured into ice, and the EMU is galloping, and the snow in the equipment compartment will lead to a decrease in traction. In order to reduce the impact of ice and snow on the safety of train operation, Wang Tao half-squatted in the equipment cabin at the bottom of the EMU to study on the spot, and after a while, his legs trembled badly. He came up with a solution: install cameras in the equipment compartment to verify the snow point and install improved snow boards. After several demonstrations, this method has been recognized by the manufacturer, and this change has been used to this day.

Since then, Wang Tao seems to have opened up the "second pulse of Ren Du", and the sense of gain, achievement, and honor brought by overcoming difficulties filled his chest.

In 2014, the Harbin EMU Depot was established, and Wang Tao was selected as the first batch of EMU mechanics. "Ordinary air-conditioned trains have only a few pages of drawings, while EMU trains have hundreds of pages of instructions for the air-conditioning system alone, stacked more than 1 meter high. Wang Tao said.

He plunged headlong into the drawings, pondering the circuit and EMU construction, and jotted down tens of thousands of words of notes. Borrowed textbooks such as "EMU Air Conditioning Software Detection" and "EMU Air Conditioning Visual Maintenance Process Card" have become Wang Tao's "charging pile".

During the Spring Festival, the EMU runs at high load. EMU mechanics conduct a data census for each group of EMUs in the warehousing operation. Every time he deals with a fault, Wang Tao checks the equipment parameters before and after, drills in and out to dredge the exhaust pipes, records and sorts out the fault judgment and treatment in detail, and summarizes and analyzes the treatment situation every week.

After a period of time, Wang Tao summed up a set of "cheats" that can accurately judge and deal with faults, as long as he hears the fault forecast, he can make timely and correct judgments and put forward treatment suggestions. He compiled his research results into the "EMU Winter Maintenance Project Guide" and "EMU Emergency Fault Discovery, Judgment and Handling Manual", which has now become a "textbook" for on-site operators.

In 2017, Wang Tao encountered a thorny problem when he first became an assistant engineer in the EMU maintenance workshop. Once, a train of EMUs continuously reported faults during dynamic commissioning, and the auxiliary power supply device stopped working, resulting in the loss of power of one unit. The technician investigated for more than 2 hours and did not find the cause of the failure. There are only a few hours before the delivery, and if the fault cannot be eliminated in time, it will delay the online use of the EMU, and everyone present is anxious. At this time, they thought of Wang Tao.

After receiving the call, Wang Tao trotted all the way to the EMU driver's cab. In a tense atmosphere, he analyzes the fault code and downloads the relevant operating data. After looking at the detection waveforms such as voltage and frequency, he decisively pointed out that the problem was with the voltage transformer. After replacing the voltage transformer, the fault disappeared, and the driver's cab cheered.

Dig deep and study and innovate and invent fruitful

Harbin EMU Depot is the only alpine EMU maintenance base in Heilongjiang Province, which is responsible for the overhaul and maintenance of alpine EMUs under the management of Harbin Bureau Group Company.

In recent years, with the rapid expansion of the Longjiang high-speed rail network, the Harbin-Jiajia Railway, the Harbin-Mu High-speed Railway, and the Shenjia-Jiajia High-speed Railway have been opened one after another, and the pressure on EMU maintenance has gradually increased. In order to improve work efficiency, Wang Tao adjusted the focus of work and took the lead in tackling key problems such as process optimization.

In the past, when replacing the air compressor of CRH5A/G EMU, due to the lack of corresponding mobile platform, the whole moving process was very clumsy and primitive: first place a wooden square on the ground, remove the old air compressor and use a wooden square to hold it up, and then move it outside the car body. When installing a new air compressor, you have to repeat the process of dismantling the old air compressor, and the whole process takes at least 9 hours.

In order to change this time-consuming and laborious situation, Wang Tao and several colleagues researched and designed the air compressor replacement trolley: two grooves are set on both sides of the trolley, and jacks are placed in the grooves, which can be lifted freely, and small wheels can be freely moved at the four corners of the trolley, so that the time spent on replacing the air compressor is greatly reduced. The successful application of the trolley has filled the gap in the air compressor replacement process of Harbin Bureau Group Company.

Although there are thousands of electrical components in the EMU air conditioner, Wang Tao knows the location, function and status of each component well. In order to solve the failure of the air conditioning board of the CRH5G EMU, he organized the team to take all the old boards that were replaced on the car back to the team, from photocouplers, capacitors to analog diodes, output amplifiers and other components, one by one to study and compare. After several days and nights of hard work, they discovered that there was a design problem with a certain batch of boards. Looking at the thick data and Wang Tao's rectification suggestions, the manufacturer was full of admiration and quickly modified and replaced the board.

On January 23, 2023, the temperature in the "Ice City" dropped to minus 40 degrees Celsius, and an EMU was stranded at Shangzhi South Station. Wang Tao led 7 EMU mechanics to the rescue quickly, each responsible for a carriage, and manually relieved the braking under the car against the biting cold wind.

In the distance, thousands of lights and fireworks were brilliant, and under the car, Wang Tao and his men fought on the rails for three and a half hours. This experience made him deeply feel that he must rely on the power of science and technology to improve work efficiency and improve the working environment. After returning to his post after dealing with the fault that night, he began to think about developing a vehicle bottom operation inspection robot. After repeated tests, at the end of 2023, the intelligent robot developed by Wang Tao was successfully launched. The robot adopts the crawler operation mode, which can adapt to a variety of road conditions such as sleepers and ballast, and a high-definition probe is installed on the top to collect image and video information at the bottom of the EMU from multiple angles, and through wireless remote control, the operator can accurately collect data information while standing next to the car.

Over the years, under the leadership of Wang Tao, the members of the studio have completed 105 research and development of EMU parts maintenance technology, formulated 92 independent maintenance work instructions, participated in the research and development and production of 9 EMU parts fault detection equipment and 12 tooling equipment, and obtained 6 national patents. In 2021, Wang Tao Model Worker Innovation Studio was awarded the Locomotive Model Worker and Craftsman Talent Innovation Studio.

Inherit the torch and cultivate new talents who lead the times

A lone branch is not spring, a hundred flowers bloom in spring. Wang Tao often said: "In the modern EMU maintenance operation, I am the only one who is iron, and it is better for everyone to be nailed!"

According to the aircraft maintenance standards and models, Wang Tao has successively compiled the EMU air-conditioning system remediation process card and task list, and itemized the huge and complex air conditioning and repair work. At a glance, young workers clearly know "what to do and how to do it".

At present, there are 31 members of Wang Tao Model Worker Innovation Studio with a bachelor's degree or above, with an average age of 37 years old, including many master's degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology, Dalian Jiaotong University and other famous universities.

Wang Tao has strengthened the cultivation of high-tech, sophisticated and cutting-edge scientific and technological talents in the field of EMU maintenance, and has signed master-apprentice contracts with young mechanics such as Lu Hao, Feng Yao, and Zhang Meng. In their daily work, through various "on-site examinations" and "on-site examinations", the apprentices' business skills have been significantly improved, and they have accumulated valuable experience and gained many honors. Their respect and admiration for Wang Tao are beyond words. Talking about the working status of front-line young workers, the workshop leader said with a smile that Wang Tao taught a group of "little Wang Tao" again.

Wang Tao pays attention to teaching students according to their aptitude. According to Wang Tao's suggestion, 28-year-old Feng Yao started from the aspects of convenience and safety, referred to the use of Lego to build a mold structure, led the completion of the tooling design, and applied for a national technology patent. At present, the finished product has been widely used in the production site, and Feng Yao has also become a "little inventor" in Duanli. "Brother Tao is our teacher and role model, and I am very down-to-earth when I work with him. Whether it is on-site communication and coordination, or encountering technical difficulties, he can help us overcome difficulties. Feng Yao praised.

Wang Tao also took the lead in organizing 100 college graduates to set up a 100-person technical research team to carry out targeted technological innovation research on EMUs. The emergency treatment method for disconnecting the emergency braking safety loop on the way of the CRH5 EMU they studied effectively improved the driving efficiency of the high-speed railway.

Considering the overhaul and maintenance cost of the alpine high-speed railway, Wang Tao set the "three high" parts with high failure rate, high unit price and high maintenance cost of the EMU as the main goal of the team's independent maintenance. From 2023 to the present, he has led the members of the studio to repair a total of 968 accessories, saving 5.8459 million yuan in procurement costs.

In August 2023, the studio's R&D project was unveiled at the 2nd National Great Craftsman Innovation Exchange Conference, telling the audience about the pioneering work of the mainland alpine high-speed railway to solve the world's alpine problems, and demonstrating the maturity and advancement of China's high-speed rail. Up to now, nearly 100 young talents have walked out of Wang Tao's Model Worker Innovation Studio, all of whom have grown into business backbones, and many have taken up management positions.

During this year's Spring Festival, Wang Tao led the team members to fulfill their duties with a high sense of responsibility and professional skills to ensure the error-free operation of 111 high-speed rail EMUs affiliated to Harbin Bureau Group Company.

"It is our duty and my colleagues to enhance the development of new kinetic energy with new quality productivity and achieve the goal of making the Fuxing EMU safer, faster and more comfortable!" Wang Tao said firmly.
