The first mountain combat brigades
The first batch of mountain combat units of our army was born in the 80s of the last century, and one of them was the 52 Mountain Combat Brigade of the Tibet Military Region, which was established in September 1985.
After the military reform in April 2017, the brigade became a mountain composite force, which was subordinate to the Western Theater (leadership and management belonged to the Army).

The 80s and 90s of the last century was a period of great economic development of the motherland, but on the long border in southern Tibet, the Chinese and Indian armies often faced each other.
The Great Confrontation
In the summer of 1987, China and India were involved in an exchange of fire in the Sandolo River Valley in southern Tibet, triggering a confrontation on the snowy plateau in which the two sides dispatched a total of hundreds of thousands of troops, and the second Sino-Indian border war almost broke out.

This elite mountain combat brigade is still stationed in southern Tibet and is responsible for defending every inch of the snowy plateau, and they shoulder the operation in the uninhabited area of the plateau at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters, and have first-class equipment and a modern training system.
Time has passed, more than 30 years have passed, and the mountain combat units of our army have ushered in a new era, and they have not only inherited the glorious traditions of their ancestors, but also shouldered today's new mission.
After a new round of military reform in 2017, a mountainous synthetic brigade on the plateau of our army was equipped with a large number of high-precision and more advanced army equipment, transformed and reshaped, and became a more powerful and efficient synthetic force.
Drone reconnaissance
With the development of new technologies, all kinds of new equipment have been successively equipped to the troops, such as the use of UAVs on the battlefield, mainly vehicle-mounted launches, forming UAV reconnaissance detachments, which are now the standard configuration of artillery, army aviation and border defense units under the composite brigade.
Training
In recent years, a certain composite brigade of the Tibet Military Region has often carried out offensive combat drills on plateaus and mountains in the hinterland of southern Tibet at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters in accordance with the training plan.
The complex plateau terrain and the cold and anoxic environment have tested the physical fitness, skills, and comprehensive combat level of the officers and men.
