NASA said recently that the International Space Station is expected to deorbit and fall into the Pacific Ocean in January 2031. Due to the sheer size of the ISS, it will not burn completely in the atmosphere.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the wreckage of the International Space Station will crash at the spacecraft 'graveyard' Point Nemo, about 2,688 kilometers from the nearest landfall, Ducie Island, named after Captain Nemo, a character in the French novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Also on December 3, 2021, NASA signed agreements with three U.S. companies to build commercial space stations in low-Earth orbit and provide development and design funding. Blue Origin received $130 million; Nanoracks received $160 million; Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation received $125.6 million.
