B-52 Stratofortress aircraft, support equipment and personnel from the Fifth Bombardment Wing at Minnot Air Force Base, North Dakota, arrived today in RAF Fariford for a long-planned bomber task, a regularly scheduled joint mission series of U.S. European Command and U.S. Strategic Command missions. En route to RAF Fairford, American bombers were integrated with British Typhoon aircraft and Portuguese F-16 aircraft and are currently assigned to NATO's Iceland Air Policing mission. The bombers also integrated with the British Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) for bilateral close air support training. The mission focuses on strengthening the readiness and interoperability of controllers responsible for coordinating air strikes in support of ground forces.
