Cambodia's military strength in 2022 at a glance:
Cambodia has an area of 180,000 square kilometers, a population of about 17.09 million people in 2022, and a GDP estimate of $27.3 billion in 2021, $70 billion in purchasing power parity (PPP), $11.87 billion in external debt, $12.2 billion in foreign exchange reserves, and a defense budget in the early $600 million.
The Cambodian Armed Forces have an active strength of 100,000 troops, a reserve force of 200,000 and a paramilitary force of 10,000, with about 311,000 reaching serviceable age each year. Its armed forces consist of the Royal Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, and a paramilitary unit, the Royal Gendarmerie. Among them, the Royal Army has more than 85,000 active personnel, divided into 11 infantry divisions; the Royal Navy has about 4,000 people; the Royal Air Force has about 5,000 people; in addition, there are 5,000 special forces; and the Royal Gendarmerie has 10,000 people.
Ground troops: equipped with 539 old tanks, including 10 T-54-2 tanks, 275 T-55A tanks, 90 T-55AM1 tanks, 74 Chinese-donated Type 59 tanks, 20 Chinese-made Type 62 light tanks, 20 Chinese-made Type 63 amphibious tanks, 50 Soviet-made PT-76 amphibious tanks; infantry fighting vehicles equipped with 79 BMP-1; armored personnel carriers, of which 50 were donated by China Amphibious armored reconnaissance vehicles with 200 Soviet BRDM-2; 200 towed artillery; no self-propelled artillery; and 97 multiple rocket launchers. Many of the light weapons of the infantry division are made in China, so I will not introduce them here.
The navy and air force have basically no equipment
The Air Force has no fighter jets, no electronic fighter awave aircraft, there are 5 L-39C trainer aircraft, part-time attack aircraft, because of the lack of spare parts and necessary maintenance, can take off normally may be 3, minimize the use of avoid premature scrapping; there are 5 transport aircraft, including 1 French-made Airbus A320, 2 Chinese-made MA60, 1 Chinese-made Y-12, 1 British-made BN-2; in addition, there are 19 helicopters, these 19 all belong to the Air Force, Among them, 9 are Chinese-made Z-9 light multi-purpose helicopters.
The navy does not have any large ships at all, the main force is 12 large patrol boats with a full row of 200 or 300 tons, and there are 8 small patrol boats of tens of tons, in addition to 1 Chinese-made Type 067 landing craft, with a full row of 128 tons and a load of 46 tons, which can theoretically carry 1 medium tank and 2 light armored vehicles.
The Cambodian Armed Forces are almost all this equipment, and its strength can currently rank 100th.
