Aprilia Apulia's domestically produced V-type two-cylinder 900 (Part 2)

January 3, Guangdong Zhaoqing GIC (Guangdong International Circuit), Zongshen Aprilia Apulia GPR250R Unified Race Zhaoqing Station & G Racing Jinkana Grand Prix held during zongshen . Piaggio Foshan Motorcycle Enterprise Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Zongshen. In an interview, the representative of Piaggio released a series of new developments in the future. One of them is the proposed introduction to The country of a new model equipped with a V-type two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 900 cc.

The basic information obtained before is that the new car may be officially unveiled in September this year.

Although no further information about the new car was disclosed at the scene of the interview, an obvious judgment will be made at Zongshen. The V-type two-cylinder, 900 cc class new car produced by Piaggio will most likely be the same platform model as the SL 900 Shiver sports street car and the SMV 900 Dorsoduro road-to-road (also known as the skid tire) currently on sale in overseas markets.

The SL 900 Shiver sports street car and the SMV 900 Dorsoduro were first released in June 2017 and officially launched the following year, and the 2021 version currently on sale in overseas markets is still based on the platform that was first released at that time. In the U.S. market, where motorcycle taxes are relatively low, the official pricing for the SL 900 Shiver Street Car is $9,399 (excluding local VAT, the same below). The official price of the SMV 900 Dorsoduro is $10,999 USD (approximately RMB70,000 for reference to the recent exchange rate).

After localization, the Apulia 900 cc V2 will be a price in the domestic market? Since the information available today is very limited, and the proportion of imported components is not understood, it is only useful to take a number in the form of "trying your luck": the most likely price is about the same level as the official pricing of the US market (60,000 for the street car version and 70,000 for the road-side version).

The two current models share a water-cooled V-type 90-degree two-cylinder, DOHC four-cylinder engine with a bore of 92 mm x 67.4 mm and an exhaust capacity of 896.1 cc, a 7SM EFI control/engine management system ECU from Marelli Marelli, with a maximum power output of 70 kW (approximately 95.2 hp). This new powerplant is an upgrade from the previous generation of 750 cc class platforms, maintaining the engine's original bore, expanding the stroke (the 750 platform has an engine stroke of 56.4 mm), resulting in a larger peak output figure.

I have had some experience with 1,000 cc V2 European cars, the crazy "violent" output characteristics of V2 coupled with the philosophy that European manufacturers have always insisted on (this level of cars is crazy enough), and it is really not easy to play without driving experience in large cars. However, from the perspective of the bore and stroke figure of 92 mm x 67.4 mm, the bore and stroke ratio are less than 1.5, and the output characteristics of the power platform, the degree of "violence" is estimated to be relatively easy to accept by more people.

Compared to the original 750 platform, the upgrades of the new 900 platform section include a special coating to reduce friction, a more wear-resistant piston, a semi-dry design of the oil pan, a new crankshaft shock reduction balance design, a six-speed gearbox, the main drive reduction ratio has been optimized, the fuel injector in the EFI system uses a way to increase fuel pressure to improve the injection of fuel/air mixture, and a new clutch with a lighter operating load. It is equipped with an automatic pressure reduction system that is easier to start under low temperature conditions.

Apulia said the initial development goal of the new machine was to get more torque and power response at low and medium speeds, thus making the riding experience more exciting. After a series of improvements, the torque output curve becomes flatter, with better power than previous-generation machines in any rpm domain without in any way limiting the reliability of the power unit.

In terms of electronic control system, the electronically controlled throttle is integrated into the engine management system, providing three different power output modes of Sport Sport, Touring Travel, Rain, rainy days, and an optional off-traction control system, dual-channel ABS brake anti-locking system.

In terms of body, a pair of steel and aluminum frames with a unique design are used: the upper part of the frame adopts a steel pipe grid design, and the lower part is made of aluminum alloy. According to the factory, such a composite structure achieves a combination of high rigidity and lightweight, and also reflects the influence of italian design aesthetic style. The design leverages the technology they developed in the field of motorsport – the car Apulia used to compete in the Supermoto World Championship, whose frame uses a similar hybrid structure. Seven of Apulia's 54 titles come from the Road Off-Road World Championships.

Another distinctive technical feature of the frame/chassis is the right-sided, tilt-mounted design of the rear shock absorber, which creates valuable space for an optimal exhaust manifold layout that does not affect the overall length of the vehicle or allow the exhaust manifold to thermally stress the rear shock absorber. The aluminium swingarm is large enough to withstand the asymmetrical stresses caused by the almost horizontal installation of the rear shock. Such a suspension design has a unique lateral rigidity and elasticity performance, which can provide a more accurate feedback for riding.

2. The rear shock absorption stroke (rear wheel up and down stroke) of the street car version is 130 mm, and the off-road version is 160 mm;

3. The fuel tank capacity of the street car version is 15 liters, and the road off-road version is 12 liters;

4. The wheelbase of the street car version is 1,465 mm, and the off-road version is 1,515 mm;

5. The seat height of the street car version is 810 mm, and the road version is 870 mm;

6. The curbcar version has a curb weight of 218 kg and the road-off-road version is 212 kg;
