From the top 10 of the comprehensive ranking, it can be seen that American students read the most classic political science and philosophical works, and these classic books rarely appear in the list of Chinese college students.
Mi Hong, a professor at the School of Public Administration of Zhejiang University and the executive director of the Institute of Population and Development of Zhejiang University, analyzed that the difference in reading the list actually reflects the difference in teaching models of Chinese and American universities.
"Many teachers in European and American universities teach classic monographs mainly, which are basically not affected by the current Internet. Under the influence of teachers teaching classical masterpieces, it is not surprising that Ivy League students read monographs and documents that are the foundational works of the capitalist system such as "The Republic" and "The Wealth of Nations". ”
In contrast, the proportion of courses taught by Chinese universities, the classical ratio is not very large, "we mainly target the problems facing the present and future development." ”
Mi Hong suggested that Chinese college students should also read more Chinese classical works, including cultural, historical, scientific and technological and even military works, and try to choose the traditional version, because the traditional characters themselves contain profound classical cultural traditions.

For these lists of Chinese universities, Cai Tianxin, a professor at the School of Mathematical Sciences of Zhejiang University, commented:
Judging from the list, Chinese college students read less imaginative books, less books with an international perspective, and fewer books of comprehensive or universal significance in the natural and social sciences.
There is also a phenomenon that there is not much difference in reading between students in famous schools and ordinary colleges and universities. I wish college students had more personalized reading. For more than two hundred years, the University of Cambridge has had an Apostolic Society that regularly discusses a book or a topic every week, and finally many outstanding talents have emerged. It can be said that without the Apostolic Society, there would be no English civilization.
