Ji Bowen: "Try Your Best Boy" rides the wind and waves | Our Olympic & National Games Tour(10)

In the competition of the canoeing project of the Shaanxi National Games, Zhejiang "post-00s" young player Ji Bowen shined. As the star of hope of Zhejiang kayaking, he participated in the National Games for the first time and collected medals in three colors of gold, silver and bronze. In this issue of "Our Olympic Journey", let's listen to his story.

ask:

At the 2018 Huzhou Provincial Games, you won three gold medals alone and began to emerge. What do you think about achieving such results in the first time you participate in the Provincial Games, or at the doorstep of your home?

Ji Bowen: At that time, this was a small goal for me, and I just wanted to play out what I usually trained.

Along the way, from Anji Major Sports School to the provincial team, and from the provincial games to the National Games, when you learned that you can go to Shaanxi to participate in the National Games, what was your mood?

Ji Bowen: I am very excited and very happy, after all, the National Games is a big stage, and I have always wanted to show myself on a higher stage. Being able to get a qualification shows that your ability is recognized.

When do you think it will be the hardest time to prepare for this National Games?

Ji Bowen: The most difficult time should be when I seek a breakthrough in training, every time I train, I have to push to the limit and persevere. Sometimes after paddling 500 meters, both legs are weak, can not stand at all, and vomiting will occur.

Is practicing vomiting the norm?

Ji Bowen: There is always. I started late and wanted to catch up with the old players and other high-level athletes in the team, and I definitely had to work harder than others. Now I'm used to training until I throw up, and training for me is a process of comparing myself and surpassing myself. For example, when sprinting, you loosen a paddle, the position may fall, you top a paddle, the position may rush up, stomach acid also rushed up, the feeling of vomiting came.

This National Games, is there a moment when you are more stressed?

Ji Bowen: Yes, it is more than 1000 meters when it comes to double rowing boats. Because the competition in this project was played on the first day, the final was also played on the first final day. Among the opponents of the competition, one group won the runner-up of the Tokyo Olympic Games, and we still had pressure to compete with them, but in the end we won a silver medal and reached the goal set before the game, and the pressure in our hearts was immediately released, and the mentality of the game was more relaxed later.

At the National Games, in an interview after the game, the reporter asked you how many points you gave your performance, you said 11 points, where is the extra 1 point added?

Ji Bowen: These 1 points added to me and my teammates (Miao Feilong) are also an affirmation of our persistence and hard work in the preparation process.

When did the two of you start working together?

Ji Bowen: We started boating in 2018, and he is my brother. At the beginning of the partnership, the two people have to run into each other, which is also a very "destructive feeling" process. For example, if a training session is not drawn well, we both feel that we have tried our best and the other has not, and there will inevitably be a "contradiction".

When "contradictions" arise, do you sit down and communicate with each other?

Ji Bowen: Technical communication is very critical for us. If you want to row the boat fast, you must first have the support of technology, and the second is to cooperate. Especially in rowing a double boat, the movements of the two people should be as consistent as possible to achieve good results.

What was the most memorable moment at the National Games?

Ji Bowen: The moment the 500-meter double rowing boat wins. I remember very clearly that when we reached the 250m, we were only half ahead of the second place, and we were already very tired. But we persevered, and finally crossed the finish line first, and we were so excited that we both roared in unison.

How would you rate your trip to All Hands?

Ji Bowen: I think it's more satisfactory. The kayaking project needs to accumulate and precipitate over the years, and there are relatively few competitors like my age. But I will not be satisfied with the current results, and there will be higher competitive levels waiting for me to break through in the future.

This year is the year of the Asian Games, do you have a specific goal?

Ji Bowen: I am still relatively sure of the Asian Games at my doorstep, and I hope to win a place in the national team through continuous efforts.

Do you have any hobbies outside of training?

Ji Bowen: Usually, I play basketball and take pictures in my free time. When you see a beautiful scenery, you will take two pictures with your hands, and when you see the basketball court, you will also shoot a few baskets from time to time.

Your social media account is called "Best Effort Boy", why did you take such a name?

Ji Bowen: When I first took the name, I didn't think too much about it, because I was young and felt that I needed to do my best to do everything, so I simply named it "Best Boy". Later, I found that the name was not bad, so I did not change it and have been used until now.

There are some motivating words in the training diary you usually write, will you often take it out and look at it?

Ji Bowen: No, because these things are written in the mind. If you don't have enough self-confidence, how many inspirational sentences you see won't have much effect, and if your heart is strong enough, you don't need to look at these sentences to reach a higher level.
