Feng Deying, a native of Rushan, Shandong. Born in December 1935 to a poor peasant family, he entered the Anti-Japanese War Primary School in the Liberated Areas at the age of 6, became a child regiment leader at the age of 9, joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army in January 1949, joined the New Democratic Youth League in August 1949, and joined the Communist Party of China in November 1956. After enlisting in the army, he studied at the Communications School of the Third Field Army of the East China Military Region, and after graduation, he went to the East China Air Force Aviation Training Brigade for further study, and successively served as a telegraph operator of a certain air force unit, a radio station chief, and a radar command platoon leader. In 1959, he was transferred to the Creation Office of the Political Department of the Air Force as a full-time creator. In 1980, he returned to Shandong to work, and successively served as the chairman of the Jinan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the vice chairman of the Jinan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the chairman of the Shandong Writers Association and the secretary of the party group, the editor-in-chief of Quancheng Literature and Art, the editor-in-chief of Times Literature, the member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the director of the Chinese Writers Association, the presidium member of the Chinese Writers Association, and the vice chairman of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is currently the honorary chairman of the Shandong Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and an honorary member of the China Writers Association.

Feng Deying began to create amateur literature and art in 1953, and published his debut novel "Bitter Cauliflower" in January 1958, and since then embarked on the road of professional creation and become a full-time writer in the army. Since then, his major works include: the novel "Spring Flower", "Mountain Chrysanthemum", "Blood-stained Land", "Clear Sky", "Anthology of Short and Medium Works", drama and film literary script "Female Pilot", etc., and his works have been translated into Russian, Japanese, English, Korean, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Romanian and other languages. Depicting the struggle and life of the people of Jiaodong during the revolutionary war period, the novels "Bitter Cauliflower", "Yingchun Flower" and "Mountain Chrysanthemum" are his representative works, which have been reprinted and distributed in 10 million copies many times in the past 50 years, and have been translated into many languages, published, adapted into a variety of literary and artistic forms, and widely circulated, influencing generations. Feng Deying's "Three Flowers" long series reflects the arduous, heroic and tenacious revolutionary struggle of the people of Jiaodong Peninsula, with ups and downs in the plot, fresh and fluent language, delicate and vivid character descriptions, and lyrical local characteristics. The "Spring Tide" in "Bitter Cauliflower" has also been compiled into primary school Chinese textbooks.

Feng Deying is a serious realist writer who has an important influence on the history of contemporary Chinese literature. With its profound and distinctive ideological spirit of the times, real and vivid character images, vivid artistic brush stroke descriptions, and a strong and full regional nostalgia atmosphere, the works are known as the outstanding representatives of the "Don River Style" and "Jiaodong Style" of Kuncheng Mountain, and "Bitter Cauliflower" is also known as the Chinese version of Gorky's "Mother". Feng Deying and his works have won various awards for many times, and in December 2007, he won the "Shandong Provincial Cultural and Artistic Lifetime Achievement Award" issued by the CPC Shandong Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Government.
