Considering the fact that the sixth-generation Mustang is also four years away from the mid-term overhaul, the Ford team in Dearborn, Michigan, began plotting an update to the seventh-generation model of the most successful muscle car in history.

According to the latest spy photos, the progress of this new car looks quite smooth.

Based on the fact that the test car is covered with multiple layers of camouflage, it obviously means that the prototype is still in the development stage, but many details are already recognizable. Starting from the front end of the new Mustang, the familiar outline of the hexagonal grille still appears on the new car. The shape of the headlights and front bumper looks a bit changed.

In addition, the relatively flat windshield and slender body also show the outside world its heritage with the previous Mustang models. The side skirt shape is more extended, but the five-spoke wheels are not ostentatious, and the braking system of the content is also gentle, indicating that the test car is not a high-performance GT version or Shelby sequence.

The rear of the body is relatively less packaged, so it also reveals more information - the new generation of Mustang's exhaust system is still bilaterally double-out, while adding diffuser-like shaped parts to the rear surround, the tail light shape will be improved, but the vertical light strip is still consistent with the sixth generation Oftang.

The change in power is completely related to the premise of energy conservation and emission reduction. According to information from Ford engineers, the all-new Mustang seems intent on introducing the hybrid system into the old senior muscle car while retaining the 2.3-liter Ecoboost turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8.

Of course, Ford does not hide their plans - as early as 2018, Ford told the media that "Mustang's future hybrid models will provide performance similar to the V8 and better low-speed torque."

In addition, Ford has applied for a patent for a "hybrid dual-motor drive system." The patent shows that the drive mode of "the system is designed to be driven by a fuel engine and the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor", which is also in line with the speculation that the new Mustang will provide a four-wheel drive version.

In an era where almost all automakers are accelerating iterations, the most important question for Mustang is when to go public. In response, some people believe that the seventh-generation Mustang model will be launched this year as Ford's blockbuster new car, while others believe that the shortage of chips and components will delay the release of the car until 2023. But in any case, as one of the few affordable sports cars that is still updated, the attention of the new Muskang will not be low.
