But in recent years, the rapid decline of large-displacement, multi-cylinder engines in the face of environmental protection regulations has made many people begin to worry about the successor of Aventador, after all, Ferrari's new flagship SF90 Stradale next door has been replaced with a V8 supercharged engine, can Lamborghini persist? With the unveiling of Lamborghini's new flagship Revuelto on March 30, Lamborghini finally did not disappoint everyone, and the 6.5L V12 naturally aspirated engine that made fans salivate is still there!
When it comes to the shape of the supercar, Lamborghini never disappoints, and you don't have to worry about Lamborghini's designers getting drunk and sticking to work, and finally bringing a mind-scratching model. However, before talking about the design of the new car Revuelto, everyone must be curious about the pronunciation of the name of the new car "Revuelto". So I specifically checked the official promotional video of Lamborghini and learned the pronunciation, which is: "ruī well tho". According to the logic that Lamborghini usually names in Spanish, the word Revuelto has a confusing and irregular meaning in Spanish, and it can be said that it still retains the very arrogant naming tradition of Lamborghini's flagship sports car.
Revuelto designer Mitja Borkert has designed the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, Taycan and Lamborghini Urus. When writing Revuelto, he still adhered to Lamborghini's radical design language, so that the car would not look outdated even after 10 years. In addition, unlike the ghost of McLaren or the elegance of Ferrari, Lamborghini is better at using straight lines and hard folds to enrich its designs. Through the combination of different facets and a large number of shapes similar to the "Y" letter, Revuelto finally presents a fighter-like appearance.
In fact, officials did draw inspiration from the F-35 fighter when designing the new car, and called the entire design "aerospace elements." What is more exaggerated is that in order to make this design have a better sense of substitution, the official also calls the person who pilots the Revuelto pilot (pilot), and although the co-pilot is still the co-pilot in the Chinese translation, the English is replaced from the original passenger to the more commonly used co-pilot in the aircraft field.
On this basis, Revuelto also focused on improving the aerodynamic efficiency of the whole car to avoid being unable to show too strong cornering strength in high-speed corners like the regular version of the Aventador. In terms of side design, Revuelto and Aventador are actually a little similar. In the details, Revuelto refers to the styling of Lamborghini's flagship sports cars. For example, the front of the rapidly swooping car is actually taken from Murciélago, while the sharp rear line is from the Diablo. At the rear of the vehicle, the Lamborghini Revuelto continues its focus on aerodynamics. The huge rear diffuser delivers very exaggerated downforce, which, combined with the electric rear wing located above the taillights, results in a 61% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency over the last Ultimate version of the Aventador, and a total of 66% increase in downforce. This is bound to significantly improve Revuelto's performance in mid- to high-speed corners, which in turn increases the lap times of the track. In addition, the transparent lid that shows the true appearance of the V12 engine has been retained, and the newly designed hexagonal exhaust is similar to that of the twin-engine fighter. At this time, coupled with the horizontal "Y" LED taillights, the rear shape of the Revuelto finally looks extremely arrogant while having a sense of beauty.
For this level of supercars, what the interior needs is not a sense of technology and luxury, but to meet the driver's strong desire to drive. Therefore, except for the 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster for the main driver and the 8.4-inch center control screen placed vertically on the central console, there is nothing that can highlight the design of technology. However, Lamborghini learned Ferrari's design well, providing a 9.1-inch secondary screen that can display gears, speed and driving modes directly in front of the co-pilot, which can make the co-pilot feel the current combat state most intuitively, and is more in line with the title of "co-pilot".
The exterior pulling wind and interior battle can only be said to be its basic plate, and performance is the soul of Lamborghini's flagship sports car! At the beginning of the article, we have already said that Revuelto still retains the V12 engine of the flagship sports car of the previous generations of Lamborghini, and does not reduce the displacement or increase the turbo due to environmental regulations, and still naturally aspirates 6.5L like the Aventador. Although the displacement has not changed, in order to obtain stronger power, the engine of the Lamborghini Revuelto has been comprehensively upgraded and improved, and finally this 6.5L V12 self-priming engine can burst out 825 horsepower at 9250 rpm, and the liter power has reached 127 horsepower / liter, and the red line speed has also come to an exaggerated 9500 rpm. In contrast, the version with the largest horsepower in the Aventador model is only 780 horses, and the red line is "only" about 8700 rpm. In addition to the overall increase in engine speed and power, Revuelto also used three electric motors very much in line with the trend. Two of the motors are located on the front axle of the vehicle, each controlling one wheel and providing torque distribution when exiting corners. The motor located on the rear axle can drive the vehicle together with the engine, charge a total of 3.8kWh of battery pack, and act as the engine starter, and thanks to the ultra-high power of the V12 engine, the engine can fully charge the 3.8kWh battery in only 6 minutes of operation. Since the front axle is driven by a pure motor, the Revuelto is currently a more common electric four-wheel drive structure compared to the mechanical four-wheel drive structure of the Aventador, and can be driven by pure electric when necessary, and the WLTP pure electric cruising range is 10km. However, due to the limitation of the discharge power of the battery pack, the maximum output of Revuelto's three motors is only 190 horsepower, but the two front motors have a torque of 350Nm, and the rear motor is 150Nm, and the overall power of the whole system reaches an amazing 1015 horsepower and a peak torque of 1500Nm.
Aventador engine + gearbox
For domestic readers who are accustomed to high-horsepower plug-in hybrid vehicles, they may think that adding a hybrid system is not such a difficult thing. But for a mid-mounted sports car with a V12 engine, the huge engine size and the narrow space between the cockpit and the rear axle leave little room for the hybrid system. So in the Aventador era, the engine installation direction was diametrically opposed to that of ordinary models, that is, the flywheel end of the power output was facing the front of the car. At this time, the gearbox is placed in the central channel of the chassis, that is, the position between the main and co-pilot of the cockpit, and then two propeller shafts are led out to transmit power to the front and rear axles respectively.
It has to be admitted that this design not only improves space utilization, but also completes the power distribution of the front and rear axles well. But in the era of plug-in hybridization, due to the increase in hardware, such a structure is somewhat unreasonable. So in order to adapt to the new power system, Lamborghini has carried out a drastic transformation of the former structure. First of all, the engine flywheel is no longer facing the front of the car, but towards the rear like a normal mid-mounted supercar. At the same time, in order to make room for the battery and minimize the negative impact of the weight of the battery pack on the height of the vehicle's center of gravity, the battery pack was placed in the central tunnel of the cockpit where the Afendador once installed the gearbox.
Revuelto gearbox + motor
But then there is a new question: where to put the gearbox? After all, the exaggerated length of the V12 engine makes it difficult to allow space behind the vehicle to install an equally long longitudinal gearbox. So Lamborghini took a different approach and chose to place the gearbox sideways. As a result, Lamborghini abandoned the 7-speed single-clutch transmission on the Aventador and redeveloped a transverse 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, and integrated a motor inside the gearbox to make the whole system as small as possible. In the end, the Revuelto side shape still maintained the appearance of a supercar.
In addition to power, Lamborghini also redesigned the monocoque body and chassis made of carbon fiber for Revuelto, which is 10% lighter overall than the Aventador, but the torsional stiffness is increased by 25% to 40,000Nm/°. Thanks to the weight reduction brought by the body and chassis, as well as the downsizing of the gearbox, the Revuelto with battery and motor weighs only 41kg heavier than the Aventador. At this time, combined with the significant increase in horsepower and torque, Revuelto's 0-100km/h acceleration takes only 2.5 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the Aventador, and 0-200km/h can be completed in less than 7 seconds.
Such power naturally requires an equally powerful braking system, so Revuelto uses super-large opposing ten-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear, all of which are carbon-ceramic discs to meet the highest performance requirements. However, its tires do not use the same Italian brand Pirelli, but a version jointly developed by Lamborghini and Bridgestone, which has excellent grip and lack air protection. Among them, the front wheel width is 265mm, the rear wheel width is 345mm, and the rim size is given two sets of options: front 20 and rear 21 inches and front 21 and rear 22 inches.
Although in the supercar brand, Lamborghini has not launched a higher level Hyper Car (the ultimate sports car) like Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche and even Pagani, but from the overall technical specifications of Revuelto, it is positioned in the top Super Car and will not lose to those Hyper Car.
