Yesterday, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced the 2021 automobile production and sales data at the first automotive industry information conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2022.
In 2021, China's automobile production and sales reached 26.082 million units and 26.275 million units, respectively, an increase of 3.4% and 3.8% year-on-year, ending the decline for three consecutive years since 2018. In 2021, Chinese brands, new energy vehicles, exports and other aspects have shown a good operating state.
In December, production of automobiles totaled 2.907 million units, up 12.5% and 10.5% sequentially, while production increased by 2.4% y/y and sales decreased by 1.6% y/y. Among them, the growth rate of production turned from negative to positive, and the decline in sales narrowed by 7.5 percentage points. Compared with the same period in 2019, production and sales increased by 8.2% and 4.7% year-on-year, respectively, of which the output growth rate turned from negative to positive compared with November, and the sales growth rate increased by 2.2 percentage points compared with November.
Vehicles as a whole: Sales in December 2021 were 2.786 million units, down 1.6% and cumulative sales in 2021 were 26.275 million units, up 3.8%
Passenger cars: Sales in December 2021 were 2.422 million units, up 2.0% y/y, and cumulative sales in 2021 were 21.482 million units, up 6.5% y/y
Commercial vehicles: Sales in December 2021 were 364,000 units, down 20.1% and sales in the full year of 2021 were 4.793 million units, down 6.6%
New Energy Vehicles: Sales of 531,000 units in December 2021, up 113.9% and 3.521 million units in 2021, up 157.5%
Chinese brand passenger cars: Sales of 1.137 million units in December 2021, up 10.0% and 9.543 million units in 2021, up 23.1%
