Guan Linzheng was a famous warlord in the Chiang Kai-shek clique during the Republic of China period and an anti-Japanese hero. During the eight-year War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he turned to the whole country and fought against the Japanese Kou many times, all of which achieved extraordinary results, so he was called the Guan Iron Fist by the enemy. It can be said that Guan Linzheng is a rare general in the national army. The 52nd Army, which is known as the sixth main force in the nationalist army, is the ace army he single-handedly created, and the Twenty-fifth Division under the command of the army (known as the Thousand Mile Ju Division of the Nationalist Army) is also a unit he single-handedly brought out.
As you may know, Hu Zongnan was the fastest to upgrade in the Huangpu phase, but Guan Linzheng ranked second with his excellent record, and the promotion speed was second only to Hu Zongnan. Hu was promoted so quickly, he had a great advantage, because he was with Chiang Kai-shek's fellow countrymen, while Guan Linzheng was not, he was from Shaanxi.
Guan Linzheng, who was the commander-in-chief of the group army during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, succeeded Chiang Kai-shek as the principal of the Whampoa Military Academy after the end of the War of Resistance. Therefore, he also missed the Liberation War, and throughout the entire history of the Liberation War, it seems that no battle was commanded by Guan Linzheng. Therefore, when the Chiang family dynasty was about to collapse, he took the family to Hong Kong. He did not come to Taiwan like senior generals from other countries.
So, why didn't Guan Linzheng follow Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan, he didn't want to go! Or is there something else hidden?
I am afraid that this has to start from 1928, when Chiang Kai-shek was preparing to form the 11th Division, and the commander of the division was Cao Wanshun, and Chen Cheng was the deputy commander of the division. But this Cao Wanshun was not a general of Chiang Kai-shek's lineage. Together with the chief of staff of the 11th Division (Luo Zhuoying), the brigade commander (Li Mo'an), and the regimental commander (Guan Linzheng), all of them were Huangpusheng. On the surface, Cao Wanshun was the commander of the division, but in fact he had long been emptied, and finally under the planning of Chen Cheng, Cao Wanshun was taken away, and Chen Cheng became the commander of this division.
However, Guan Linzheng said to Luo Zhuoying: "Chen Dwarf (Chen Cheng) is not smarter than Cao Wanshun, and may be worse than Cao. Knowing that Luo Zhuoying was Chen Cheng's confidant, he told Chen Cheng what Guan Linzheng said, and since then Guan Chen has formed a grudge.
Guan Linzheng and Chen Cheng not only had a grudge during the Northern Expedition, but also had many contradictions during the War of Resistance. In 1943, He Yingqin took the opportunity to transfer Huang Wei, commander of the Fifty-fourth Army under the jurisdiction of the Ninth Army, and the 54th Army was Chen Cheng's concubine, and Huang Wei was also a member of the Tushu Department. Guan Linzheng, with the support of He Yingqin, sent Zhang Yaoming (Guan's concubine general) to take over as the commander of the army. In this way, the contradiction between Guan and Chen has become more intense.
Later, when planning the expeditionary force in Kunming, the atmosphere between the two was very unfriendly, and when Chen Cheng mentioned the Fifty-fourth Army to Guan Linzheng, the two openly slapped the table, making the atmosphere at the scene very awkward. Guan Linzheng replied coldly: "Ci Gongjun is a leading figure who is about to grasp the affairs of the whole country, and should no longer be closed in a small circle of civil engineering departments, and a military commander will not let go of his position.
Chen Cheng's remarks can make Chen Cheng angry, and you must know that Chen Cheng is a confidant of Chiang Kai-shek and is known as the chairman of the small committee. Usually he reprimands others, who dares to talk to him like this. After experiencing this series of events, Guan Chen and Chen have reached the point where water and fire are intolerable. This is also the reason why Guan Linzheng did not go to Taiwan to live and die, which is directly related to Chen Cheng.
Therefore, Guan Linzheng finally went to Hong Kong, during which time Chiang Kai-shek also invited him to Taiwan many times, but all of them were rejected. Perhaps, he also heard that many of the nationalist generals who went to Taiwan were not reused. So he could also guess the end of the stage, so he stayed in Hong Kong. However, after Chiang Kai-shek's death in 1975, Guan Linzheng went to Taiwan to mourn.
