The 8-year-old boy Jump jumps (pseudonym) and is a second-grade elementary school student. Near the end of the term, my parents prepared some revision questions for jumping to consolidate exercises. On the evening of December 31 last year, after Jumping finished writing his homework, his father checked and found that the accuracy rate was good, but the handwriting was too messy, so he asked him to rewrite the scrawled part of the neat. Jumping was reluctant and forced to sit honestly at his desk. According to dad's recollection, the child will play with the eraser for a while, find a ruler for a while, and rub it for half a day and refuse to write. Dad, who had been standing behind him, looked at him without hitting, and raised his hand to prepare to hit people. Jumping and seeing that his father was angry and about to hit him, he immediately raised his hand to block his father, but he held the pencil he had just cut in his hand, and just like that, the pencil was inserted obliquely into the back of his head.
Mom and Dad were immediately frightened and quickly sent Jump to Wuhan Children's Hospital. When Xu Jump was delivered to the emergency department of the hospital at 8 o'clock, he was conscious, his limbs were reacting normally, and there was no obvious blood on the surface of the wound on the back of his head. Doctors quickly received him to neurosurgery and began preparing for emergency surgery.
At 11 p.m., the surgery begins. Huang Wenkai, a neurosurgeon at the hospital, found that the pencil entered from the occipital part of the child's head, crossed obliquely to the right side of the neck, and entered the body for about 7 centimeters, fortunately not inserted into the skull. But the situation is still dangerous – the pencil is only a few millimeters away from the spinal canal, and the vertebral artery is near the pencil. If the spinal canal is broken, the child may be paralyzed, and if the artery is injured, the child's life is in danger on the spot.
On the operating table, Dr. Huang Wenkai carefully removed the pencil in its entirety, and because he was worried about the increased risk of infection in the body of graphite or wood chips residue, he repeatedly rinsed the trauma channel and injected tetanus needles for anti-infection and debridement treatment. After a day of treatment and observation in the ICU, on January 2, Jump was successfully transferred to the general ward.
"The child is very lucky that the pencil is not inserted into the skull, otherwise the risk of infection is greatly increased." Du Hao, director of the Department of Neurosurgery of Wuhan Children's Hospital, introduced that before, the hospital also received a boy who ran while eating, chopsticks inserted into the skull after wrestling, and girls with snack bamboo sticks inserted directly into the bottom of the tongue, the treatment process is very thrilling, and some parents have pulled out foreign bodies before seeking medical treatment, which is absolutely prohibited and very dangerous.
Afterwards, parents confessed that they "regretted it" and were worried about leaving psychological shadows on their children. Du Hao reminded that parents are prone to emotional breakdown and anger when tutoring their children's homework, and the catharsis and outbreak of this emotion will not help the tutoring homework, and there may be unexpected situations like this.
