Mercedes-Benz unveils a new concept car with extremely low wind resistance

On January 3, Mercedes-Benz released the VISION EQXX concept car. It is designed to maximize overall efficiency, not simply to increase the battery size and increase the range. The car's drivetrain efficiency, energy density, aerodynamics and lightweight design are all extreme.

The VISION EQXX electric drive unit integrates a motor, gearbox and electronic control equipment, using a new generation of silicon carbide material, and the motor output power is about 150 kilowatts. The power control unit is based on the AMG hypercar system under development.

By changing the battery ratio, the energy density of the VISION EQXX concept car reaches 400 Wh/L, and its 100 kWh battery pack weighs only 495 kg, which is 50% smaller than the EQS's benchmark battery pack and 30% lighter. The mileage of a single charge is more than 1000 kilometers, and the energy consumption of driving 100 kilometers is less than 10 kWh, which is equivalent to the fuel consumption of traditional fuel vehicles per 100 kilometers.

The bionic shape of the VISION EQXX reduces the wind resistance coefficient to 0.175, greatly reducing the air resistance. Keep in mind that nearly two-thirds of the kinetic energy of conventional models is used to overcome air resistance.

The VISION EQXX body makes extensive use of lightweight materials as well as new manufacturing processes. Its chassis is equipped with a lightweight F1 subframe, aluminum brake discs, fiberglass springs and more. The wheels feature ultra-low rolling resistance tires, rim-optimised aerodynamic geometry combined with lightweight magnesium alloys for increased range.

The roof is equipped with 117 miniature solar panels, and the electricity generated by solar energy is stored in a small lithium iron phosphate battery that powers the air conditioning blowers, lighting, infotainment systems and other auxiliary equipment on the car. If the sun shines for a day, the electricity generated by solar energy is equivalent to the electricity that VISION EQXX travels for 25 kilometers.

The VISION EQXX car uses Mercedes-Benz's first ever completely seamless center console LED LCD screen, which runs from one side A-pillar to the other, spanning 47.5 inches, and the screen has a resolution of 7680x660 pixels and 8K.

The interior of the car does not use a variety of petroleum and animal products at all, but a low-carbon and environmentally friendly recycled composite material, and the visual and tactile sense is very delicate. The interior is in silver, rose gold and glossy black tones, full of upscale feeling to show the modern luxury of mercedes-Benz electric era.
