Guo Rugui is a native of Tongliang, Sichuan, born in 1907, his cousin is Guo Rudong, the commander of the Sichuan Army, in 1925, with the help of his cousin, Guo Rugui came to Guangzhou and defected to the revolution, soon after, he was admitted to the fifth phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, after graduating from the military academy, Guo Rugui participated in the Northern Expedition, and in 1928, he joined the Communist Party.
Later, Guo Rugui went to the Japanese Non-Commissioned Officer School to study, in 1931, after the Japanese Kwantung Army planned the "918 Incident" in northeast China, Guo Rugui and some other patriotic classmates returned to China, and soon, he came to the Army University to become a cadet, here, he was appreciated by Chen Cheng, and then promoted all the way.
