But in 1939, after only a year of marriage, Li De was ordered to return to the Soviet Union, because the visa was not approved and Li Lilian could not be taken with him. Since then, Li Lilian has served as a music assistant in Yan'an and also participated in the Yan'an Literary and Art Symposium. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Li Lilian was mainly engaged in the united front and women's and children's cause, and died in Beijing in April 1965.
