Volkswagen battery business IPO, to create a new "Ningde era"

On Dec. 9, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said Volkswagen was preparing for a partial sale or listing of the battery division and had agreed to turn it into a European company, as well as to provide conditions for the move. In this regard, the news that came out as early as June this year has finally echoed, and volkswagen will also go further towards electrification.

Looking back, the recent action of Volkswagen is not small, the exposure of the Volkswagen battery business listing aside, from the internal palace fight to change the authority of Dis, to the change of China's new and old bosses, and then to Volkswagen's new five-year plan, it is indeed impossible to help but ponder: Volkswagen is indeed doing a lot of things for the transformation of electrification.

According to statistics, 14,167 new vehicles were delivered in the Volkswagen ID. series in November, an increase of 11.2% over October. You know, in the first half of this year, the cumulative sales of ID. were only 18,285 vehicles, which is not much higher than the single month of November.

Some voices questioned the ID.series with the help of multi-model tactics, divided into ID.3 (configuration | inquiry), ID.4 and ID.6 three families, if according to FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen, it is more subdivided, and part of the sales come from the internal digestion of employees.

However, there is no doubt that the volkswagen ID. series has exceeded 10,000 achievements for 3 consecutive months, which not only poses a great threat to new domestic forces, but also a powerful counterattack against the argument that traditional car companies cannot build new energy vehicles.

Speaking of the independent IPO of the Volkswagen battery business, in fact, the wind has been heard in June this year. At that time, Thomas Schmall, member of the Volkswagen Group's management committee responsible for technology and CEO of volkswagen group parts division, said: "At least for the battery business, we do not rule out any possibility for the time being; But with just one cell factory, it is impossible to list on the stock exchange, and the whole thing must be combined with higher-level planning.

There is also another news worth noting, Volkswagen announced at the Power Day held in March this year that it plans to build six new super battery production plants with its partners in Europe by 2030, which will cost tens of billions of euros. For other regions such as China, the United States and Mexico, it is also possible to add more battery factories.

Of course, in China, the main position of the world's new energy vehicle and power battery market, Volkswagen has already planted a seed of power battery - Guoxuan Hi-Tech. According to the announcement issued by Guoxuan Hi-Tech in May 2020, Volkswagen China strategically invested about 1.1 billion euros in Guoxuan Hi-Tech, and thus acquired 26.47% of the shares of Guoxuan Hi-Tech, becoming its largest shareholder.

It should be known that Guoxuan Hi-Tech has always been among the top five regular customers in the ranking of domestic power battery companies. And just in the ranking of domestic power battery companies just released in November, although Guoxuan Hi-Tech ranked fourth, in terms of the proportion of the entire market share, it is already comparable to the third place of China Innovation Airlines (AVIC Lithium Battery).

Therefore, the first question is: when the Volkswagen battery business is listed separately, what should Guoxuan Hi-Tech do?

In fact, in the face of the arrival of a new era, Volkswagen has made a firm choice - full electrification. Taking the spin-off of the battery business as an example, its roots are nothing more than the consideration of electrification transformation. But in this process, whether Volkswagen wants to recreate a "Ningde era" does not matter, what is important is how to truly implement electrification.
