Beginning Friday (Nov. 26), the 49th Street and 50th Street between Fifth Avenue and Six Avenue will be closed, and the popular pedestrian street around Rockefeller Center will resume again, according to WCBS.

This year, the City of New York will further increase pedestrian space, with movable obstacles on both east and west sides of Fifth Avenue between 48th Street and 52nd Street, with one lane reduced on each side.

De Blasio said the reason for the resumption of walking space is that the number of pedestrians is expected to return to pre-COVID-19 levels.

De Blasio and other city officials have encouraged people to use public transportation to reduce traffic.

"Public transport is the best option for getting around, and these pedestrian streets will create a safe, spacious and welcoming environment for everyone during the holidays," said Desho. ”

The New York City Department of Transportation noted that vehicles will be barred from 47th, 49th and 50th Streets starting Friday (Nov. 26).

Movable barricades will also be installed on the east side of Sixth Avenue between 48th and 52nd Streets.

The New York Mayor's Office said the streets were closed daily from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

The Metropolitan Transportation Administration (MTA) emphasized that buses will bypass all stops between 48th and 52nd Streets, as well as the streets around Rockefeller Center during walking hours.

Officers are on duty 24 hours a day in closed street areas, adjusting barricades in a timely manner according to pedestrian needs and weather conditions.

Street closures will continue until January next year. Next Wednesday (Dec. 1), stricter road controls are expected at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony. (Original title: Holiday Season Manhattan Multiple Streets Close Back to Walking Streets Around Rockefeller Center)
