Emperor Ningzong of Song (1168.11.19 – 1224.9.17), a native of Qiantang County, Lin'an Province (present-day Hangzhou, Zhejiang), reigned for more than thirty years and was the thirteenth emperor of the Song Dynasty.

Song Ningzong

In June of the fifth year of Shaoxi (1194), Emperor Xiaozong of Taishang died, and it was supposed to be his son Guangzong who presided over the funeral, but Guangzong had already abandoned the government at this time and did not want to take care of state affairs at all, so the ministers had to ask the empress dowager to hold a ceremony in place of Guangzong. On the other side, the ministers also asked Emperor Guangzong to make Crown Prince Jia crown prince, and Emperor Guangzong was naturally pleased, and immediately gave instructions: "After a long time, I want to retire." During the ceremony, the empress dowager proclaimed the edict of Guangzong Zen: "The emperor was ill, failed to carry out the funeral, once had a royal pen, wanted to retire from idleness, and the crown prince Jia Wang could be the emperor." In the same year, Emperor Guangzong was forced to abdicate the throne, and Emperor Ningzong, who had no intention of ascending the throne, ascended the throne in the same year.

After Emperor Ningzong of Song succeeded to the throne, he reused two ministers, Zhao Ruyu and Han Nongyu (tuō zhòu), who had supported him, and appointed Zhao Ruyu as the prime minister, Han Nongxu as the Privy Council, and later made Lady Han (Han's niece and granddaughter) empress, so that the front and back courtyards of the palace were all Han's cronies, and Han Nongxu also gained power, but Han Xinxin and Zhao Ruyu were deeply at odds.

Zhao Ruyu, the only nobleman of the Song Dynasty who was admitted to the imperial court and became a chancellor (and deposed for this), loved to take in celebrities and wanted to do something. Han's consistent prestige in the imperial court also caused dissatisfaction among the officials under Zhao Men, so some officials proposed to impeach Han Nongxin, but there were many henchmen in the Han Dynasty and Emperor Ningzong trusted him very much, so the matter of impeachment was not resolved, but the officials who advised him were denounced. At this time, Han was recruiting troops and buying horses, gradually expanding his power in the imperial court, and in February of the first year of the Qingyuan Dynasty (1195), Han deposed Song Ningzong on the grounds that "Ru Yu lived with the same surname, which would not be conducive to the society", and Zhao was therefore deposed and demoted to Fuzhou (later poisoned and died). All the courtiers retained and did not get results, and they were all expelled one after another. From then on, Ning Zong only listened to the words of the Han family.

During the reign of Emperor Ningzong, relations with the Jin Dynasty became increasingly tense. Emperor Ningzong of Song believed that the Great Song Dynasty was alive and unwilling to accept a series of subservient policies, so he also supported Han's tough measures against the Jin Dynasty. In April of the fourth year of Jiatai (1204), Emperor Ningzong of Song adopted Han's suggestion, and Chongyue Fei degraded Qin Juniper and posthumously crowned Yue Fei as the King of E, and two years later Emperor Ningzong ordered the stripping of the title of Prince of Shen and the title of "Loyal Sacrifice" that Qin Juniper had been given after his death, changing his title to "False Ugliness", and issuing an edict to investigate Qin Juniper's crime of misleading the country: "One day to indulge the enemy, then the worries of several generations." This move is the most thorough case of rehabilitating Yue Fei in history. These measures have effectively dealt a blow to the main peace faction and greatly encouraged the main war faction. At this point, the great war is about to break out.

Yue Fei

In May of the fourth year of Jiatai (1204), Emperor Ningzong of Song issued an edict on the Northern Expedition, and the Song army launched an undeclared war and launched an attack on Jin. At the beginning of the war, the Song army recovered some of the lost land, but Jin had already prepared and immediately counterattacked after being attacked. Due to the actual gap and the rebellion of the officers and soldiers, the war ended the following year with the defeat of the Song Dynasty. In 1208, Song and Jin signed the Jiading Peace Agreement, and the titles of the Song Emperor and the Jin Emperor were changed from their former nephews to nephews, which was humiliating.
