The turning point of the Great Yuan Empire from prosperity to decline: the young Tianzi Yuan Yingzong, who was suddenly assassinated at the age of 20

author:Eyu Anhui Patrol Envoy

In 1320, the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, named Aiyu Li Bali Bada, also known as Emperor Yuanrenzong, died in the capital city in depression and decadence. Before his death, he violated his agreement with his brother Emperor Wuzong of Yuan, and instead of appointing his brother's son as crown prince, he made his own son Shuode Balao the crown prince. He left his son the largest and most powerful Yuan Empire in the world at that time, and also left his son with a mess full of devastation and fierce infighting. In this year, Shuo de Ba La was only 18 years old, and was known as Yuan Yingzong in history.

Shuo De Ba: Yuan Yingzong

This young tianzi was full of heroism and full of ambition, bent on breaking the old and building a new one, and sweeping away the evil government. Deeply influenced by Confucianism from an early age, he has been vigorously pursuing the policy of "ruling the country with Confucianism" since he ascended the throne. But in front of him were powerful stubborn conservative forces. His representatives were his grandmother, the Empress Dowager, and the old lady's confidant, Temu Di'er, the Right Minister. The diehard faction led by these two men, tyrannical and insatiable, can be described as the biggest obstacle to the development and progress of the Great Yuan Empire.

Shuo De Ba Lai knew that his strength was weak and he could not compete with his grandmother. He had no choice but to pretend to be confused and allow her to interfere in the affairs of the dynasty, while constantly sealing Timur to paralyze the powerful courtier who was said to have an affair with the empress dowager. However, he was not willing to be left at the mercy of others, but was always looking for like-minded ministers with both moral integrity and ability to help him. Soon, he took a fancy to a minister in his early 20s, and quickly made him the left chancellor of Zhongshu to compete with Temudi'er, a man named Baizhu.

Shuo De Ba La's father: Yuan Renzong

Worship is not an ordinary person, his ancestor is Muhuali, one of Genghis Khan's beloved generals. His grandfather, An Tong, was a favorite of Kublai Khan, the ancestor of the Yuan Dynasty, and served as the Right Minister of Zhongshu. Baizhu grew up under the influence of Confucian culture, was well versed in Confucianism, and had great ambitions, ready to fully assist the young Tianzi to achieve a hegemonic career. With the joint efforts of Shuo De Ba Lai and Bai Zhu, the two camps of the old and new were soon formed in the DPRK, one side represented by the Empress Dowager and Temu Di'er, and the other with Yingzong as the core.

Under the planning of this Zuo Cheng Xiang, Shuo De Ba Lai launched a huge tiger fighting operation. He first took action against the great tiger Temudier, but because of the interference of the empress dowager, the matter was not resolved. Although Temudian lost his phase, he was unscathed and still held a high position of authority. He then began to attack Timuriel's minions, executing Asan, Hari, Tatetsu, and Qiu liemen for conspiring to depose the emperor and raiding their homes. Not to be outdone, Temudi'er repeatedly complained in front of the empress dowager.

Empress of Shodebara

Due to the interference of his grandmother and others, Shuode Bala was never able to let go of his own political ideas, and could only endure, and continued to negotiate with the empress dowager, fighting wits and courage, and even seeking perfection. Finally, in the autumn of 1322, the empress dowager and Temudian died of illness one after another. At the end of that year, ShodeBara quickly raided the powerful man's home and executed his son Basigis. At the same time, it also purged some of Temudi's high-ranking and powerful cronies. However, the fight against the tiger is not thorough, and there are still many fish that have slipped through the net.

The main obstacle disappeared, and Shuo de Ba La was refreshed and appointed Bai Zhu as the right minister of Zhongshu, and no longer had a left minister. Since then, he has become the only minister, who can be said to be above ten thousand people under one person. With the help of Zhang Jue, the governor of the Peace Chapter, Shuode Ba lai began to carry out reforms and implement some new policies. Through a sharp reform and punishment of corruption, the political style soon took on a new look, and the empire gradually recovered. As for the main content of the new deal, Xiaobian simply sorted out and summarized, and welcomes everyone to correct it.

Coins from the era of Emperor Yingzong of yuan

First of all, a large number of Han bureaucrats and scholars were used, appointing people on the basis of merit and emphasizing their talents. For example, Zhang Jue, Wang Jie, Wang Yue, Wu Jian, and others have all been used in a special way; second, the dismissal of redundant personnel, that is, the reduction of some institutions and officials, can greatly reduce the financial burden; second, the implementation of the law of assistance, the "Biography of Yuan Shi Ganwen" records this law more specifically: "Will create a law of assistance, where the people's land is 100 acres, order three acres to enter the official position, for the help of the conscripted"... It turns out that this move has greatly reduced the burden on ordinary farmers.

Finally, the grain transported by Jiangnan by 200,000 stones was reduced to reduce the burden on the people of Jiangnan; in addition, the "Great Yuan Tong System" was approved and promulgated, and by the first month of the second year of the reign, Emperor Yingzong ordered people to continue the compilation of the unfinished decrees of the Renzong era, and ordered the Privy Councillors to complete Yan Nadan, Shi Yushi Cao Boqi, Pu Yan of the Zhengzong Zhengfu, Jixian Scholar Qincha, Hanlin Zhixue Cao Yuanyong and others, as well as Zhang Jue, and zhang Jue, who jointly examined and approved and supplemented them, that is, the advent of the "Great Yuan Tong System". This move greatly strengthened the centralization and rule.

Map of the territory of the Yuan Dynasty

Objectively speaking, the reform of Shuode Ba la has reduced the burden of ordinary people to a certain extent, and also reduced the financial burden of the state, and the rule of officials has also improved, and the productive forces have also developed to a certain extent. However, he was too hasty and failed to fundamentally weaken the power of the conservative nobles, so in fact the results were not great. In addition, he first announced that he would not blame some of Temudier's subordinates in the past, but under the persuasion of Baizhu and others, he soon began to vigorously clean up these people, which caused the resentment of these people.

Tetsuki was once one of Temugi's confidants and served as the Imperial Doctor. At this time, he was not only the emperor's wife and uncle, but also held the power of the forbidden army. When Temudian died, the emperor, in order to win the hearts and minds of the people, announced that he would not blame some of Temudier's old subordinates. But after the emperor had absolute power, he began to show a sense of disgust for these people. Bai Zhu and others even denounced these ministers in public, advocating the liquidation of their crimes, and Iron Lost became more and more fearful and hated the emperor.

Ruins of Yuan Shangdu

One day in 1323, Shuode Bala set out from Shangdu to return to the capital. That night, he stayed at the Nanpo shop, 30 miles south of Shangdu. Unbeknownst to him, Tie Lost had united a group of conservative nobles whose interests in the reform had been damaged in the reform and was preparing to launch a mutiny. That night, the group rushed into the camp of Shuo de Ba La and killed the beggar to worship. Then, Tie Lost personally killed the young Tianzi. This incident occurred on the fourth day of the first month of August in the third year of zhizhi (September 4, 1323), and is known in history as the "Change of the Southern Slope".

On the surface, this is nothing more than a group of people who have a vendetta against the emperor and suddenly launch a mutiny, killing the emperor and the chancellor. In fact, this was a struggle between the Mongols and the Hui nobles and the Hanfa faction, as well as between the conservative forces and the reformers. The young Tianzi Shuode Ba la lied to carry out reform, but he was too hasty and reused a group of people who did not know how to be flexible and were too arrogant, so the reform ended in a fiasco. The impact of this incident is also extremely far-reaching, and the Great Yuan Empire has since moved from prosperity to decline!
