He knew the books and etiquette, and fully supported Yang Zaian's revolutionary work

His mother, Chen Zhi (1870-1942), a native of Guhe Village in Zhongshan, was born in a family of overseas Chinese officials and eunuchs, knew books and etiquette, loved poetry and calligraphy, and could write a good hand on both his left and right hands. Her husband Yang Fuxiang's family road was broken, and she made a living selling tea and porcelain, and she gave birth to 9 children, and in the end, only Yang Zaian survived. Chen Zhi lost his husband in middle age and devoted all his energy to raising his only surviving son, Yang Zai'an. Since childhood, Yang Zai'an has followed her mother on her lap to recite poems and ancient texts, and when she was a teenager, Yang Zai'an successively studied at Gongdu Xuetang and Ya'an Middle School (Guangya Middle School) affiliated to Liangguang Higher School. From embarking on the revolutionary road to his final dedication to the revolution, Yang Zai'an was inseparable from his mother's love, edification and support. Yang Zaian participated in revolutionary work, which she believed was a just cause and supported it with all her might.

Revolutionary mother, receiving and covering a large number of revolutionary comrades

There is no hesitation in the face of setbacks in the revolution. Whether in Guangzhou or Shanghai, she took advantage of her old and unobtrusive conditions to receive and cover a large number of revolutionary comrades, and was called "revolutionary mother". Yang Zaian has been arrested many times, and she is well aware of the difficulties of the revolution. In 1931, when Yang Zaian was arrested again, she was anxious and uneasy, and she felt that her son had no hope of survival. When she received a note from her son from prison that read: "The sewing machine can no longer be sold if it is poor" and "It is not acceptable to accept other people's money and goods", she finally shed tears.

The battle was fierce, and he returned to Guangzhou after several difficulties

Shortly after the death of his son Yang Zai'an, the Japanese invaded and occupied Shanghai, and the "128" incident occurred, and the battle on North Sichuan Road in Shanghai, where their home was located, was very fierce and they were trapped for several days. Chen Zhiyuan wanted to go to the French Concession to find He Xiangning, who knows, when the family of nine walked to the Bund, they found that the road to the French Concession had been blocked, and just when they were cornered, a miracle appeared!

Chen Zhi found that a Standard Chartered foreign firm ship "Hesheng" was parked at Jardine Wharf. She remembered that Yang Zai'an's classmate Xie Zhao had served as a comprador on this ship. After inquiring, I knew that this ship was going to Guangzhou. So the family, with the help of Xie Zhao, returned to Guangzhou. Otherwise, the consequences are unimaginable. Regrettably, Chen Zhi was unable to bring the family's only livelihood reliance, the sewing machine, back to Guangzhou according to his son's instructions.

The only thing the family relies on for life is the sewing machine

In Guangzhou, Chen Zhi first sent several grandchildren to work as clerks, child laborers, and orphanages with the help of Yang Zai'an's former friends. Later, the party organization managed to find them. With the help of Zhou Enlai, He Xiangning, Liao Chengzhi, Kang Ruoyu, Zhu Bochen, etc., the living conditions improved. The grandchildren had the opportunity to learn, and when they grew up, they all joined the revolutionary ranks one by one. Chen Zhi died of illness in Hong Kong in 1942. Zhou Enlai praised her for "supporting Yang Zai'an in carrying out the revolution, and supporting her younger generations to participate in the revolution, and doing a lot of work for the party," which was very impressive to her.
