After taking the opportunity to come to Shanghai, Xu Zhimo went home and saw Lu Xiaoman lying on the smoke bed, and began a fierce quarrel, at this time, the rumors of Lu Xiaoman and Weng Ruiwu had been boiling over, her opium addiction and huge expenses made Xu Zhimo debt-ridden, but still did not agree to go north with him to settle down, Xu Zhimo wanted to get angrier, accusing Lu Xiaoman of unrepentant and fierce words.
According to Yu Dafu, who was present, Lu Xiaoman, who was accustomed to being pampered, could not listen to the advice, lost his temper, and casually threw a smoking gun at Xu Zhimo's face, Shima quickly dodged, fortunately did not hit, the gold wire glasses fell to the ground, and the glass shattered. ”
This made Xu Zhimo feel very unhappy, and on the afternoon of November 18, he went to Zhang Youyi's Yunsheng company to order a few shirts, and by the way complained to Zhang Youyi, recounting the dispute between him and Lu Xiaoman.
Zhang Youyi recalled in "Little Feet and Suits": "That afternoon, he said he had to rush back to Beijing immediately. I asked him why he had to be in such a hurry, and he could go back the next day. I also told him that I didn't think he should fly on a Chinese airline, whether it was free or not. He laughed and told me as usual that he would be fine. ”
What Xu Zhimo did not tell Zhang Youyi was that he was in a hurry to return to Beijing tomorrow to listen to Lin Huiyin's lecture.
Lin Huiyin had a deep affection for Xu Zhimo in her heart, although due to her father's fate and her own reason, she did not choose to marry Xu Zhimo, but this relationship was always hidden in her heart, in April 1931, Lin Huiyin wrote a poem "That Night", published in the "New Moon" edited by Xu Zhimo:
"That night you held my hand,
The misty starry night blockade lifts up heavy sorrows.
That night you and I set the right direction,
The two of them each recognized the appearance of life.
To this day I still remember that night,
Starlight, tears, white riverside!
To this day I miss your farming on the shore:
The vividness of the red flowers and the yellow flowers. ”

In July 1931, Xu Zhimo wrote the answer poem "You Go" and sent it to Lin Huiyin, which was also his masterpiece:
"You go, I go, we break up here;
Which road do you go on, you can go with confidence,
When you're far away, I'll stride forward,
Some of this wilderness is the freshness of the night dew;
Nor do you worry about the clouds, but the wind must move,
The mercury of the sea of clouds is surging with the stars;
Not to mention that it will always shine through my heart;
There is that pearl that never sleeps, I love you! ”
The woman he loves the most is always Lin Huiyin.
After separating from Zhang Youyi, on the same night, Xu Zhimo went to Nanjing, and the next morning he sent a telegram from the airport to Lin Huiyin, saying that at three o'clock in the afternoon, the plane could reach Beiping Nanyuan Airport.
At nine o'clock in the morning of November 19, Xu Zhimo rushed from Nanjing to Beiping by postal plane, there were only three people on the plane, Xu Zhimo was the only passenger, the host master Wang Guanyi was busy preparing for his daughter's wedding the night before, almost all night, lack of energy, and when the plane arrived in the area of Jinan Dangjiazhuang, due to the thick fog and difficult to distinguish the course, he had to lower the flight altitude to find a route, unfortunately crashed into the mountain, and all three people on the plane were killed, just like the scene described by Xu Zhimo at the end of the article "Want to Fly":
"At the same time, the black of the sky was already approaching above my head, forming a bird-shaped machine, and suddenly along the side of the machine, a ball of light was poured straight down, and the sound of boron exploded,—— shattered my fantasies in flight, and several piles of broken floating clouds were added to the blue sky..."
Later, according to Lu Xiaoman's cousin's recollection, just at noon on November 19, the frame hanging in the Xu family's living room where Xu Zhimo put the photo suddenly fell off the wall, and the mirror surface fell to pieces, making Lu Xiaoman's heart jump and fidget, and later thought that he might have hit the photo frame when he threw a smoking gun at Xu Zhimo, and the next day, she heard bad news, and also learned that when Xu Zhimo was dying, there was still a scroll containing Xiaoman's paintings around him, and he planned to take it to Beiping to find someone to frame, which made Lu Xiaoman even more sad.
After the plane crash, Bao Junjian, director of the Nanjing office of China Airlines, who sent Xu Zhimo a free ticket to Xu Zhimo, went to Xu's home overnight to report the news, and Lu Xiaoman refused to believe it, believing that Xu Zhimo would not take the postal plane. Bao Junjian had to go to Zhang Youyi, who also lived in the French Concession, to report the letter, and Zhang Youyi quickly asked his fourth brother Zhang Jiazhang to go to Jinan, buy a coffin to transport Back Xu Zhimo's body, and after holding a funeral in Shanghai, Xu Zhimo was buried next to his second son, Peter Xiao, who had never been with him before.
Xu Shenru hated Lu Xiaoman, who brought bad luck to Xu Zhimo, and forbade her to return to her hometown to attend the funeral, but after being persuaded, she promised to pay Lu Xiaoman 300 yuan per month for living expenses.
Lu Xiaoman did not expect that the last quarrel with Xu Zhimo was to say goodbye forever, she was in great pain, fainted several times, never went out to socialize again, quit opium, lived in simplicity, devoted herself to compiling Xu Zhimo's posthumous manuscript, and also repeatedly repented of the harm caused to Xu Zhimo. However, despite her talents, she was still a weak and powerless woman, unable to live on her own, and later relied on Weng Ruiwu to provide for her.
These uneasy and ominous omens that Xu Zhimo's relatives and friends felt in advance actually reflected Xu Zhimo's extremely unpleasant mental outlook at that time, under the heavy pressure of life, this poet who single-mindedly pursued love, freedom and beauty, in the face of various contradictions and conflicts of feelings, family affection, life, and work, has been unable to do enough and is in a difficult situation, he only wants to live in poetry, with warm power to enjoy a beautiful and short life.
In the end, like the short poem he wrote in the spring of 1930, "Yellow Oriole", he broke through the clouds and completed a singing with extreme life energy:
"As soon as it spreads its wings,
Break through the thick and turn into a colorful cloud;
It flew, it was gone, it was gone—
It's like spring light, like flames, like enthusiasm. ”
