In September of that year, Zhang Zongchang was surrounded by Bai Chongxi's forces in Luanzhou, eastern Hebei, and could not move.
Zhang Zongchang felt that the general situation had gone, disguised himself and fled, taking a boat from Luanzhoukou to Dalian, and then taking a boat east to japan. Its 50,000 people were all absorbed by Bai Chongxi.
In September 1932, Zhang Zongchang returned to Jinan under the name of returning to his hometown to visit the tomb.
At that time, the chairman of Shandong Province was Han Fuyu, the commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Ji Yulu "suppressing bandits" and the commander-in-chief of the Third Route Army, and he absolutely could not let Zhang Zongchang make a comeback in Shandong, so he set up a good situation and informed Zheng Jicheng, who wanted to avenge his father, to come and take action.
Thus, on September 2, 1932, Zheng Jicheng and his friend Chen Fengshan carried a gun to the Jinan Railway Station to lurk, and when Zhang Zongchang appeared, they launched a fierce gun battle, and finally killed Zhang Zongchang.
After Zheng Jicheng killed Zhang Zongchang, he abandoned his gun and surrendered himself.
