The South Korean government intends to reach a social agreement on the issue of banning dog meat

South Korea Radio International reported on November 25 that the South Korean government held a meeting on the assessment and adjustment of the outstanding case of national politics on the 25th to discuss the direction of social discussion on the issue of banning dog meat. In his opening remarks at the meeting, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Fu-kyun said the issue of dog meat has been controversial for more than 30 years since the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Recently, the number of families raising companion animals has increased dramatically, and society has begun to pay great attention to animal rights and animal welfare, in this context, it is necessary for all sectors of society to discuss the issue of eating dog meat. In view of this, the Korean government decided to establish a joint discussion body centered on the private sector to reach a social agreement and improve the relevant system in the blind spot.
