Electric vehicles came into the spotlight at the 2022 New York Auto Show.

The 2022 New York Auto Show will take place April 13-24 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York. After the expansion in 2021, the exhibition center covers an area of 3.37 million square meters. Among them, the 13th and 14th are media days, and the 15th is officially open to the public.

Almost every automaker on the show has an electric car or plug-in hybrid. Many of them are the ones we've seen before, including the Mercedes-Benz EQXX, Ford F-150 Lightning, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Chevrolet Bolt EV and Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup, Hyundai Ioiq 5, Kia EV6 and Volkswagen ID Buzz and ID 4 crossovers. Even the Nissan Leaf has a new look.

Here are the 10 electric cars that stood out at the 2022 New York Auto Show (some brands include more than 1).

1.2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale

Alfa Romeo's first compact electric model, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale, was officially unveiled in February. The Tonale is a plug-in hybrid with a battery power for up to 30 miles. The SUV's gas engine variant is equipped with a 256hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

2.Airflow Graphite Concept SUV和Grand Cherokee 4xe

Stellantis invested $35 billion to bring new electric vehicles to market, and the Chrysler Airflow Graphite concept SUV set the way. The electric car has 22-inch wheels, a sleek shape and a range of 400 miles. It is also equipped with Stellantis' STLA AutoDrive system with L3 level autonomous driving capabilities.

The Jeep brand showcased its 4xe vehicles, including the Grand Cherokee High Altitude 4xe. The latest 4xe plug-in hybrid model features aqua blue exterior paint for the first time and will begin ordering in the second half of the year.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe offers 25 miles of all-electric range and the equivalent of 56 miles per gallon. The 4xe propulsion system combines two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

3.Vayanne EV

Austrian car manufacturer Deus Automobiles unveiled its Vayanne EV supercar. This sports car is curvy with slim headlights and oversized air intakes. Deus claims that the 2200-horsepower Vayanne can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 mph. Superior performance in the ranks of supercars over $1 million. Its price has not been disclosed.

4.Indi One

Indi EV is a California-based startup, the Indi One is an all-electric, five-seater, 300-mile range electric car. A competitor to the Tesla Model Y, this "lifestyle-focused" electric car has a built-in gaming computer via an on-board integrated computer (VIC), and the infotainment unit is powered by open source software that supports a range of customizations, from horn sounds to professional virtual assistants. The Indi One starts at $45,000 and is scheduled to begin deliveries in the spring of 2023.

5.2023 Niro and Kia EV9

Kia used the New York Auto Show as a launch platform for its next-generation Niro subminiature SUV. The 2023 Niro will be equipped with hybrid, PHEV or EV powertrains. The new model showcases more futuristic design elements such as boomerang taillights and a more aggressive grille. It also has a better mileage — 253 miles, compared to 239 miles in the previous generation.

The automaker also showcased its EV9 concept car, which debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2021. It uses the same E-GMP EV platform as the smaller EV6 and hyundai Ioniq 5, and it's actually going into production.

Kia confirmed at the New York Auto Show that the EV9 will enter the U.S. market in the second half of 2023.

6.Genesis X Speedium Concept

Kia's upscale sister brand Genesis brought its all-electric Genesis X Speedium concept as a hint that Genesis will launch an all-electric EV product by 2030.

The coupe highlights Genesis's bold design: a low, long-back body style with wrap-around headlights and an oversized triangular grille worn by the automaker's gas-engined cars. The design is derived from the X Concept Genesis, launched last year, and is named after the Inje Speedium track in South Korea, which it developed.

7.Vinfast VF8 and VF9 SUV

Vietnamese automaker Vinfast showcased its all-electric VF8 and VF9 SUVs at the New York Auto Show.

Vinfast also announced at the auto show that it plans to lease batteries separately from utility vehicles and charge a monthly fee based on battery usage. Without batteries, the 5-seat VF8 and 7-seat VF9 SUVs start at $40,700 and $55,500, respectively.
