On April 7, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products.
Effective immediately, the recall will be made of a total of 127785 imported and domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles with production dates from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022 (including 34,207 imported Model 3 vehicles and 93,578 domestic Model 3 vehicles).
So far this year, Tesla has recalled more than 150,000 cars.
There are extreme situations
There may be minor manufacturing differences in the rear motor inverter power semiconductor components of vehicles within the scope of this recall, and the component manufacturing differences after some vehicles have been used for a period of time may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally.
This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard.
In response to the recall, Tesla said that it will upgrade the motor control software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through the remote upgrade technology of the car; for the vehicles that cannot be recalled through the remote upgrade technology of the car, the relevant users will be contacted through the service center to upgrade the motor control software for the vehicle to closely monitor the rear motor inverter of the vehicle, and timely replace the rear inverter with related failures for free to eliminate safety hazards.
In terms of "emergency measures", Tesla said that before the vehicle recalls the upgrade software, users should drive the vehicle cautiously and contact the Tesla service center for maintenance as soon as the recall begins.
Tesla also said that the recall was carried out under the circumstance that the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration launched a defect investigation. Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will notify the relevant owners in an effective manner, and the Tesla service center will also take the initiative to contact the relevant owners to arrange recall and repair.
There are precedents for similar accidents
Perhaps some people remember the Tesla throwing pot at the National Grid incident last year, and the most fundamental reason for this is the burning of the inverter. In January last year, a car owner who had just bought a Model 3 for only 6 days said that after charging at Tesla's supercharging station, the whole car was cut off and could not start. To this end, Tesla staff said: The reason is that the current of the national grid is too large, causing the inverter to burn out, and there is no problem with the vehicle itself.
In this regard, the State Grid Nanchang Power Supply Company official Bo retorted: the voltage at the time of the incident was normal, in line with national regulations, it is recommended that Tesla carefully find the reason for the vehicle.
This month, there are also Model 3 owners who broke the news that they were driving on the highway and encountered a scene where the vehicle suddenly lost power. When the loss of speed occurs, the owner is driving normally in the tunnel at a speed of more than 100 yards, and suddenly the vehicle begins to stall without warning, and the machine screen displays the words "The vehicle cannot continue to drive, please stop immediately".
At present, according to the owner's own revelations, Tesla officials have determined that this car is one of the 120,000 defective vehicles. From the car circle, it can also be seen that the owner is still negotiating with Tesla officials on the amount of return.
Since last year, similar cases in Beijing, Xingtai, Nanchang, and many parts of the country have finally formed recall cases.
Although Tesla models are basically built and sold, the models waiting in line at this time are not within the scope of the recall batch, but it will also shake consumers' confidence in buying cars to varying degrees. As far as the recall announcement is concerned, only the Model 3 model has been recalled, and up to 75% of the Model Y models shared by parts have not been recalled, which also makes it difficult for consumers not to suspect that there is the same problem in a certain batch of Model Y.
Although Tesla sales have been going up, but the product quality does not seem to have been improved because of the increase in sales, the past two years Tesla recall incidents are not many, it can be said that in the new energy enterprises is a relatively large recall, such a Tesla, in the quality of products need to go a long way.
