New energy vehicles: Now you hesitate, at the end of the year you can not climb high

From the perspective of the current front end of the entire industrial chain, the price increase of power battery raw materials will continue, and the price increase of new energy vehicles will become a trend in 2022.

Entering 2022, with the increasing complexity of the international situation and the impact of the gradual rise in the price of rare earth resources, the vast majority of terminal consumer goods have ushered in a wave of price increases. This has a more far-reaching impact on the electric vehicle industry, especially in the domestic automobile consumer market, more and more car companies will focus on new energy vehicles, and the ensuing surge in battery demand will further boost the price of batteries and other related raw materials.

Just entered April, the domestic new energy vehicle market once again ushered in a wave of price increases. Jihu Automobile, Chery New Energy, Changan New Energy, Extreme Krypton Automobile, Jiangling New Energy, Lantu Automobile and other car companies have announced price increase information. In addition to Jihu Automobile and Extreme Krypton Automobile, the price increases of other car companies are more than 3,000 yuan.

In fact, in addition to the above car companies, domestic mainstream electric vehicle brands that enter 2022 have also announced price increase policies. Since entering April, more than 30 domestic car companies have announced price increases for their new energy models, involving more than 50 models.

Just in the middle of last month, BYD announced on its official Weibo that due to the continuous rise in raw material prices, the company will adjust the official guidance prices of more than ten new energy models related to Dynasty Network and Ocean Network. The increase ranges from 3,000-6,000 yuan.

This is not bydir's first price increase in the first quarter of this year. Just on January 21, BYD announced that it would adjust the official guidance price of new energy models related to Dynasty and Ocean Network from February 1, with an increase of 1,000-7,000 yuan.

At the same time, Tesla, as the "sales crown" of domestic high-end new energy vehicles, raised the price of its Model 3 high-performance version, Model Y long-end life version and high-performance version three times in mid-March. The cumulative increase is more than 30,000 yuan.

According to incomplete statistics from the editor, since the beginning of this year, the price increase range of domestic new energy vehicles includes independent brands, new forces in car manufacturing, joint venture brands, imported brands, etc., and the price increase ranges from 1% to 10%, from less than 1,000 yuan to more than 10,000 yuan.

Obviously, in 2022, a wave of new energy vehicle price increases has been formed in China. The reason is that Li Bin, founder, chairman and CEO of Weilai, said in Weilai's 2021 Q4 earnings conference call: "From the third quarter of last year to this year, the price of raw materials upstream of power batteries has risen rapidly, resulting in the entire new energy vehicle industry chain to share the pressure of rising costs. ”

It is understood that in 2022, due to the rise in raw materials, the surge in demand and other factors, the price of power batteries has risen sharply. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology at the beginning of this month, from January to February this year, the domestic lithium-ion battery industry maintained a high-speed growth trend, according to research institutions, the total output of lithium batteries in the country exceeded 82GWh in January and February. In the lithium-ion battery link, the energy storage battery output exceeds 9GWh, and the installed capacity of new energy vehicle power batteries is about 30GWh. The huge demand for power batteries has brought about a soaring upstream raw material price. The price of battery-grade lithium carbonate soared from 50,000 yuan / ton in January 2021 to more than 500,000 yuan / ton (at the end of March this year), directly doubling. The latest price of battery-grade lithium hydroxide is also above 450,000 yuan / ton, and the price has refreshed the historical high in 3 years.

According to the data, 1kWh power batteries need 0.6-0.8 kg of lithium carbonate, which means that a 60kWh battery pack, the cost of the battery alone will rise by more than 20,000 yuan, and this is just the price increase of lithium carbonate as a raw material.

At the same time, the general rise of new energy vehicles is also affected by the dual impact of policy. Just on December 31 last year, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Development and Reform Commission and other four departments jointly issued the "Notice on the Financial Subsidy Policy for the Promotion and Application of New Energy Vehicles in 2022" and the subsidy plan.

According to the content of the new policy, the subsidy standard for new energy vehicles in 2022 will be reduced by 30% on the basis of 2021, and new energy vehicles that will be licensed after December 31, 2022 will no longer be subsidized by the state. The introduction of the new policy means that 2022 will be the last year for China to implement the subsidy policy for new energy vehicles.

According to the latest subsidy plan for new energy vehicles in China this year, from January 1, 2022, the subsidy for pure electric vehicle models with a cruising range of 300 km (inclusive) to 400 km is 0.91 million yuan, a decrease of 0.39 million yuan compared with 2021; the subsidy for pure electric vehicle models with a cruising range greater than or equal to 400 km is 12,600 yuan, a decrease of 0.54 million yuan compared with 2021; in addition, the subsidy for plug-in hybrid models is 0.48 million yuan, a decrease of 0.2 million yuan compared with before.

It is worth noting that this year's low-cost new energy vehicles will face greater challenges. Like Wuling, Changan, Chery and other brands, their entry-level new energy vehicles are basically in the situation of "selling one and losing one". In order to stabilize the market share of related models, we have to do business at a loss.

This situation has also been confirmed by some car companies. On February 23, Dong Yudong, CEO of the Great Wall Motor Euler brand, issued a document clarifying the rumors of the suspension of the production of the Euler black cat and the white cat, saying that the two models only stopped receiving orders. At the same time, he also said that due to the sharp increase in raw material prices in 2022, the loss of black cat bicycles exceeded 10,000 yuan, bringing huge losses to the company.

From the current point of view, this year's new energy vehicle price increase will become the main tone of the market, with the price of related battery raw materials soaring in the future, more and more car companies will also join this wave of price increases.
