Pengsha Academy, located in Waisha Lincuo, was founded in the ninth year of the Qing Dynasty, that is, in 1870, and took 18 years to complete. Sitting southeast to northwest, the academy is the "double sword" layout of the traditional Chaoshan houses, which is connected to the Fang Gong Lecture Hall, and the locals collectively call the two "Wen Ancestral Hall".
Its construction area is about 2,000 square meters, it is a three-entry "double sword" pattern, divided into an entrance hall, a middle hall and a back hall, as well as fire alleys on both sides, which is a typical Chaoshan house every day; there is a "back bag" behind it, which is "two rooms and one hall".

Historically, Pengsha Academy was used as a place to promote learning and educate the people, and it continued until the Republic of China period. During the Great Revolution, Pengsha Academy and Fang gong lecture hall were used as peasant clubs. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Pengsha Academy was used to establish Pengsha Junior High School, setting off a boom in science education and national rejuvenation. After the founding of New China, the "two courts" once again became the office of the government.
In 1938, the Outer Sand Youth Resistance Association was established in Pengsha Academy to carry out various revolutionary youth propaganda activities, so Pengsha Academy has historical significance in the history of the War of Resistance.
However, as the years passed, this century-old academy was increasingly damaged by wind and rain. In 2012, Pengsha Academy was selected as the seventh batch of cultural relics protection units in Guangdong Province. In May 2017, the local government officially launched the repair project of Pengsha Academy, which was divided into two phases and five lots to restore the original appearance of Pengsha Academy to the greatest extent. Among them, the renovation of three lots of the first phase of the project, including the lecture hall of the College and the box rooms on both sides of the fire lane, was completed in 2019.
The first phase was done inside the academy, because of the serious damage, the tiles above were all off, the fire alley was all damaged, and finally, the remaining things were preserved, so the stone pillars, beams, and roof trusses were basically used in the original, the roof was additionally repaired, and the floor tiles below were also paved, probably more than 60% of the original materials were used, so the quality requirements for cultural relics were still high.

After restoration, the original collapsed walls and broken tiles have gradually returned to their original shape, the former mottled carved beam painting walls have also been repaired and colored, the carvings of flowers, birds, fish and insects on the beams have come to life, and the former style of the academy has been restored.
Under the cuo of the fire alley, we call it "belly waist pa", this place, a lot of embodiment is the academy's things, such as the "carp jumping dragon gate" inside, that is, the college students will be in the high school and the first intention of the head in it, the content of the mural, is also the content of the college's teaching, in the past history, readers are paying attention to "benevolence, righteousness, wisdom and faith", these are concentrated in it.
In September 2019, Waisha Street started the construction of the first lot of the second phase of Pengsha Academy, gradually repairing the sloping gatehouse, front and rear patios, east wing houses and fire alleys, and demolishing the illegal buildings in the front cheng, which is expected to be completed by the end of this month. Next, Waisha Street will actively raise funds to start the construction of the second lot of the second phase as soon as possible.
The most important thing in the repair of cultural relics is "repairing the old as old", the old is not a tattered old, but the original style of construction is preserved, the pattern is unchanged, the materials are as close as possible to the raw materials at that time, so this repair contains a certain technical content, you have to have historical knowledge, but also have the foundation of intangible cultural heritage (skills), you can repair very well, neither can it be repaired very beautifully, very "super", as if newly built, meaningless, but also can not be repaired tattered, take this degree is very difficult, just right.
It is understood that the repaired Pengsha Academy will serve as a patriotic education base, a science popularization base and a cultural propaganda position in Waisha Street, carry out relevant cultural activities, continue the historical mission of the college, and make the college glow with new vitality in the new era.
