Aunt Dong translated the Comments of the Yiyun Family into English, called "The Criticism of the Yiyun Family", which was published in the United States. The book was published shortly after Dong girl was beheaded by the Japanese army. The original manuscript was probably burned down along with Silver Creek Church. On the same day, the entire Village of Silver Creek was first robbed by the Japanese army and then set on fire.

The author of this book asked a friend to translate the preface and part of the letters of "YiyunJia Fanpai" back into Chinese, restoring the chaoshan smell as much as possible. In order to facilitate the reading of today's readers, the ganzhi chronicle was changed to the Common Era year, and the sender was marked with a subtitle. The letter's title, ending, and signature are omitted.

The translator lived in southern China for twenty years and still lives here today, spending most of his time in Yinxi Village, a village near hanjiang in the Chaoshan region of southeastern China, where he became familiar with the local dialect and met many local women. The translator once bought an old house in Yinxi Village, organized some women in the village to spin and embroider in it, combined the local traditional female red with the Western yarn drawing process, and innovated it. All the embroidery was purchased by translators and sold to the United States and European countries, so that the women did not have to travel far to earn an income and no longer stayed alone in the empty nest. Most of the women's husbands went to Nanyang, worked as coolies or did business in Siam, Annam, Shrat, Malay and other countries, often not returning home for three or five years, and some even died on the way. Women and children are often left in the village. Due to the small number of people and the frequent occurrence of wind and rain, those who stay at home usually have nothing to do and rely on the money and silver that men regularly send back from abroad to survive. At the same time as receiving money, you usually receive a letter of length or short, which together is called a batch.

The hostess of the old house I bought, named Yiyun, hanged herself many years ago. Yi Yun's underage son was picked up by her mother's family. One day, while cleaning, I stumbled upon these letters, and the remainder of the batch, the letters, numbered in all a hundred. I thought that with the passage of time, the words in these letters became more important and could help foreigners understand the mysterious and ancient country of China, so I selected those who had more practical content to translate into English. These letters were only letters, not replies. Some were written by fathers to their daughters, some by husbands to wives, and the recipients were Yiyun.

There are many ethnic minorities in China, and although the folk customs and accents vary greatly from place to place, they all use the same script and identify with the common culture, and all ethnic groups have a high sense of identity and belonging to Chinese civilization. There have been several periods of ethnic minority administration in history, but they have gradually been assimilated by the powerful Han and Tang civilizations. Dynasties have changed, and the long-standing and self-contained Chinese civilization has never changed and is full of vitality. We can call this civilization cultural blood, and it is Chinese that is united by this blood. The Chaoshan area, far from the capital, can probably be regarded as a living fossil of Chinese civilization, which has not changed significantly after changing dynasties, and the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese civilization are more prominent here. My travels have covered vast parts of the country, and I thought the Chaoshan region was unique in terms of the integrity and representation of Chinese cultural heritage. Character determines destiny, both for a country and for a person. The stories and feelings reflected in these comments are far from complete, but they can also be used as a reference to let us understand their origins, aspirations and their hardships from one side, as well as their deep-rooted human, popular and racial characteristics.

Chinese believe in having many children and many blessings, so as long as the conditions permit, they will marry more and have more children, and their purpose is not necessarily sensory pleasure, nor is it necessarily related to love, but there may be severe survival needs, one more son will have one more way out, in case one of the sons is out, the fate of the whole family will change. Therefore, it is often the case that multiple brothers jointly manage a company. When one of them became rich, he was obliged to take all the brothers out, including the cousin who had not yet given up the five clothes. Brothers can always get along harmoniously with each other, the elderly and young are orderly, respect and love, and the harmony is as it should be, not about morality and ethics. It also eloquently explains why Chinese society tends to breed familial power and nepotism. People here generally prefer sons to daughters, because men can pass on incense, can go south and north, can engage in adventure, can become the pillar of the family, and women will eventually marry out to worship "other people's family gods", so after the mother of an ordinary family gives birth to three daughters, she will often give the fourth and fifth to others, sell them as maids, and even abandon, drown, and strangle them. A woman is only entitled to live with marriage after having a son. In other words, the son is a woman's account, and with the son's account, a woman's life is guaranteed. The value of a woman is a remnant of the value of the whole society, three from four virtues, enduring humiliation and bearing heavy burdens, husbands and children, gentle and quiet, all of which are the same. Many women's only career in their lives is to worship the lord, the husband travels far away, living in a fan state that does not know how far away, the women's concerns can not help but follow the imagination of the country, worship the lord, the obvious purpose is to ask the gods to bless the father, husband or son to arrive safely and return safely. In the eyes of many people, the Chaoshan people believe in chaos gods, they believe in all gods, even gods who cannot be named, in fact, their religion is nothing more than peace, or peace is their belief, at least the faith of women. Women's hearts and minds are nothing more than the most basic things, safe and smooth, not luxurious at all. I will never say bad things about Chinese women, to be fair, the fate of Chinese women really has its deep historical roots and social reasons, and women, naturally become the focus of cultural baggage and social injustice, become a group of people living at the end of a huge social machine, become a group of people forced to bear, naturally and unquestioned to become victims, very worthy of sympathy and understanding, fortunately in this situation has been quietly transformed.

Chinese have the most self-sacrifice in the face of the big picture, the best way to defend their country in the face of foreign invasion, and the most able to unite – often terrible unity. Sometimes it's difficult to rally them together, and sometimes it's easy, as if that's what their racial trait is: their mind is a unique group-thinking that awakens at the same time as mass humiliation approaches infinitely. For them, unity, like emergency surgery, is forced to arrange when it is impossible not to do it. Insensitivity is often made beforehand, and suddenly there is a unity of purpose. Chinese is very willing to treat others with courtesy and sincerity, not to infringe on others first, but also has a high degree of self-esteem, and has always had the original impulse of "if anyone offends me, I will offend". There are also frequent clashes between families, between villages and villages, and between camps and camps, even in armed struggles between you and me. The frustration and sense of honor of this easily activated group makes me unable to infer the following: Since ancient times, Chinese history has been changing dynasties, some of which occurred in the blink of an eye, and the days of stability had just begun, and another war and chaos had emerged. There is a proverb in the Chaoshan region, "Eight Hundred Lords of the Thousand Years of Heaven", which expresses people's worries about the impermanence of prosperity and decline. Fear and anxiety accumulate over generations and become almost part of the spiritual DNA. This sense of fear and insecurity, hidden in their blood, may be the deep root of their ease of uniting. They revere power, they tend to be inflamed, and they greatly admire justice, and if someone is just and righteous, and asks for the people's orders, they will worship the gods and pass them on from generation to generation. Their emotions are changeable, they suffer from gain and loss, they are sometimes wise and stupid, sometimes elegant and sometimes rude, unpredictable. Many of them are helpful, building roads and bridges, and doing many good deeds, but they are also eager for profit and mercenary. They love honest labor, believe that wealth rises from the bucket, there are lazy people without lazy fields, business can be made in a fine way, but there is a heart that desires to make a windfall, so many people are good at gambling, and the gambling in the blood may ferment at any time. They are the most able to run the family diligently and frugally, trusting hard work, but they are also greedy for pleasure, drunk and dreaming of death, and opium ghosts abound, regardless of whether they are professional or poor, or whether their families are good or bad. They worship imperial power and dream of the emperor's grace, but recently the situation has been completely opposite, the trees are scattered, and the whole country is in a situation of warlord chaos, party factions, and endless debates. They like to talk about big truths, but all the big truths can't fight small truths, justice can't fight forces, rules can't fight unspoken rules, and fighting lawsuits is like a wrestling game, and the powerful side will win. So their overriding desire is often to defect to a powerful group, or to support a force together, the conceivable benefit of reciprocity that drives each member to do his or her best, to twist it into a rope. Chinese philosophers, even if some people have no idea who Lao Tzu and Confucius are, it does not prevent them from becoming philosophers, and all aspects of life can stimulate their philosophical thinking, so they are always masters of dealing with crises and dilemmas. They advocate reading, believing that everything is inferior, only the reading is high, and almost every village has private schools and volunteer schools, which are maintained by donations or public land income, and the children of poor families can also go to school. But the utilitarian nature of reading is very strong, everyone knows that reading is to change fate, promote officials and get rich, even the poorest people, as long as they have academic success, under the Majesty of Dan, all kinds of colors can be worn, can be obtained. Some of them became true gentlemen by reading books and became the conscience of the whole society. In this country, there are as many gentlemen as there are villains, villains and gentlemen are mirrors of each other, and they get the power of self-affirmation from each other, and the villains prefer to give up the reputation of the gentleman and try their best to make real profits for themselves, and the gentlemen need to persuade themselves not to look at the real interests of the red villains and enjoy themselves, such as the peaceful and happy way, repaying grievances with virtue, bowing down to others and blaming others, the beauty of adults, the beauty of adults, and not doing what they want to others. However, it is common for a villain to become a gentleman at the right time, and a gentleman may accidentally or have to be a villain. Being a villain or a gentleman may be a dilemma that Chinese, especially Chinese intellectuals, can never lose in their lives. Chinese evaluation of people is often either black and white, not a gentleman, that is, a villain. The Zhou Yi is a philosophical work and a book for divination, with a total of sixty-four trigrams, some of which are "beneficial to gentlemen and unfavorable villains", or vice versa. In addition to gentlemen and villains, there is also a third type of person: hypocrites. In other words, Chinese used to dividing people into three categories: gentlemen, hypocrites, and villains. The status of the hypocrite seems to be lower than that of the villain, because the villain is generally in the light and can be seen and touched, and the hypocrite hides in the dark, unable to prevent it. Once a person has been a gentleman, or once a villain, and then goes to the opposite side of himself, Chinese does not know how to evaluate. Bai Juyi's poems express a similar situation: "Zhou Gong feared the rumor day, and Wang Mang was humble and did not usurp the time." Xiang Ling died in the first place, and the truth or falsity of his life is unknown. "As mentioned above, it is easy to find advantages in Chinese, and it is easy to find shortcomings, but this does not mean that I understand them, nor does it mean that I am laughing at them, that I am inducing hatred. No, in my opinion, they are us, and their problems are our problems. Our sense of superiority is often shallow, lacking in humanitarian hearts and visions, as well as in conscience and honest urgency. Like all ancient peoples, such as the Jews, the Greeks, the Indians, they and their culture, like the sun, have countless spots, but they are still the sun, shining brightly. It is very dangerous to criticize any nation as a whole. This is an experience I have had over the years of living in China. I personally have been one of them and have always loved them and their culture, including their flaws. Of course, it is easy to claim to love them, just as it is to claim to dislike them. In any case, to understand them, to know them, to see their richness, complexity and simplicity, it takes sincerity, love and tolerance. I believe that an ancient civilization with such a complex personality and infinite possibilities will certainly play a leading role on the Asian stage and even the world stage in the future. The Chinese nation is a multitude of people, shrewd in their minds, and stoic, and will certainly be able to prosper within fifty or a hundred years. The country is destined to follow the United States as the dominant global player. I firmly believe that the people of such a country will have an important impact on the fate of the other three-quarters of humanity.

But, I would like to say, I would like to ask for your forgiveness, because I am often wondering many things: Is there an element of disguise in the cause of God that we are engaged in? On November 15, 1907, Jean Mei sent a letter

Hereby undertakes to pay the great silver fifteen yuan, and then check it out. The New Year is approaching, homesick, I want to return to Tang dynasty in the near future, and after a few years, I will learn from my father-in-law's friend to practice tooth removal.

On February 15, 1908, my father wrote a letter

Yi Yun's daughter, the letter is known, and the letter copied to make beauty is also known. Old habits are hard to change and have been around since ancient times. This covenant returns to the covenant, and the covenant is as it is. Why is it cool, it is not mentioned at all. Ru was quite angry with the distant people, and his father's heart was also anxious. Thinking of me as a rudai, I can't tear up what is hidden in people's minds, and now I should allow him to take it slowly, but I will suffer less from all kinds of pain. Siamese people play with themselves, their parents are out of control, frozen three feet, not a day's cold.
