Do you think the ideal L9 has a dashboard or not?

Recently, I think everyone has seen the interior pictures of the ideal L9, of which the center console of the ideal L9 has changed a lot from the ideal ONE. There is heritage, and there is innovation.

The place of inheritance is that the screen in front of the co-pilot has been retained, which is a design that exists on the ideal ONE. The innovation lies in the fact that the air conditioning control screen under the ideal ONE console is gone, and there is no dashboard. There are two large screens left in the central control area, a central control screen and a co-pilot screen.

Since the instrument cluster was eliminated, the Ideal L9 was displayed with a large HUD head-up display that displayed driving information. There is also a small screen on the steering wheel that displays speed and mileage information.

But it is this that cancels the design of the dashboard, and there are great doubts. Many people think that eliminating the dashboard is not a particularly good design.

[1] Why was there a head-up display function?

To explain this problem clearly, we must first look at why there is a birth of a head-up display. The head-up display function was first used in fighter aircraft, in fact, many civilian aircraft have not yet had the function of head-up display. Why do fighter jets need to look up? On the one hand, because fighter pilots need to deal with a lot of complex information. The second is to concentrate the driver's attention, always looking ahead, so as to focus more on driving.

The head-up display function on the aircraft is very useful. There are three main reasons. First, the operation of the aircraft is much more complicated than that of the car, so the most important information is displayed with the head-up display function, which improves the convenience of the driver.

Second, when the aircraft is flying in the sky, it is actually difficult for the pilots themselves to judge whether the aircraft is horizontal. So the head-up display function, one of the most important ones is the level. to help the driver determine whether to maintain a horizontal posture with the ground now.

The third is also very important, that is, in the environment in the sky, whether it is sunny or white clouds, then the background displayed by the head up is a relatively pure state. It doesn't seem like the information is cluttered.

【2】Can the head-up display completely replace the dashboard?

However, the head-up display function is more difficult to use in cars, in fact, I have personally experienced many cars equipped with a heads-up display function, which I find difficult to use. Or it's hard to adapt.

First of all, the functions on the car are much simpler than those in the airplane. When driving, you can look down to know what the speed is and what is the navigation situation? There is no need to assist by looking up at all. So many vehicles like Tesla don't have a dashboard and only pass through a central control big screen. Nor does it seem inconvenient.

Second, when we are driving on the road, the head-up display is projected onto the front windshield. But the outdoor environment is very complex, there are roads, there are buildings, there are pedestrians. Especially at night, when the vehicle is also on the light in rain and snow, the head-up display function is basically impossible to see. You will feel a special shaking of the eyes.

So that's why the technology of the current head-up display has been very developed, but the new generation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class still retains the dashboard. I don't think even Mercedes is ready to make the dashboard disappear completely.

[3] The most beautiful interior is the interior with symmetrical design

Another important reason is that without the dashboard, it is difficult for the interior design to appear symmetrical. In fact, the automobile industry has been around for more than 100 years now, and we can find that all good interior designs are certainly symmetrical designs. Symmetrical design is particularly reasonable from an aesthetic point of view, and asymmetrical design has also been tried and designed by many manufacturers, but it is particularly easy to become obsolete and will never become mainstream.

We see the interior design of the ideal ONE car is a particularly symmetrical design, but also very simple, so I like the ideal ONE. From the ideal ONE to the ideal L9, I think that from the aesthetics of the design, it is not as pleasing as the ideal ONE.
