Interview 丨 Li Lanni: I wrote a brisk song about my days in a mental hospital

It was 14 years after I called the writer Laney Lee again.

In 2008, when Li Lanni's "No One in the Wilderness - A Mental Archive of a Depressed Patient" was published, the reporter had a deep conversation with Li Lanni, and the strong contrast between the intellectual intellect she embodied in facing me and the crazy pain she described during the depression attack touched me greatly. Since then, I have unconsciously understood people with mental illness with a normal, natural mindset.

Unexpectedly, "No One in the Wilderness" is the beginning of Li Lanni's writing on the theme of mental illness. In this hard and unfamiliar field that literature is difficult to reach, Li Lanni is writing as a patient, a writer, and even half an expert. In 2012, she published "I Became Sick because of My Love: Dog Doctor Zhou Lele and Patient Li Lanni"; in 2021, she published "Wild Land Inspiration: The Days I Lived in a Mental Hospital", and in the same year, she was selected as the "Top Ten Good Books of the Year" in Shenzhen Reading Month, thus constituting the "Wilderness Trilogy"; its unique expressiveness and strong humanistic care make these three works have important social value.

Due to physical reasons, Li Lanni rarely faces the media. In the spring, March and April are the high incidence of depression, thank you Li Lanni agreed to the interview, we started from the "days of staying in a mental hospital".

When you close the book with a smile, it may be a little painful for the author

"WildLands" has a striking subtitle - "The Days I Lived in a Mental Hospital", and the world of mental hospitals rarely spills out to the familiar world, often with fear and prejudice.

Li Lanni's mental hospital is not terrible, it is loaded with the sorrow and bitterness of the silent and marginalized group, and the restoration is the appearance of a living person, especially several teenage characters such as Rong Rong, Mo Youai, Little Mushroom, Gao Er and so on. In addition, there are psychological problems in the elderly, alcoholism, and Li Lanni's dissection of her relationship with her mother. This monograph on mental illness, a book with a unique subject, is beyond any previous reading experience. Her writing is lighthearted, humorous, and even pleasant, but it brings a fresh and painful reading experience.

Li Lanni told reporters that she wrote "NoBody in the Wilderness" as a self-talk, tracing back to why she suffered from depression. At that time, I felt that I was going to hang up in less than two years, so I summed it up without reservation and was very bitter. A reader once left me a message saying that after buying "No One in the Wilderness", he only turned the next few pages and did not dare to read it from scratch, because he was afraid. "

After I finished writing "WildLand Aura", I was more willing to give it to others. Because I have readers in my heart, I am not writing about darkness, not about the wilderness, but about the light that shines into love. I can't write so heavy, I want to sing it out in a simple and brisk way, trying to have a humorous, contrasting expression. The reader laughed, closed the book, and occasionally walked on the road, suddenly remembering the author Li Lanni, who may have a little heartache. "

"WildLand Aura" is a documentary literature based on Li Lanni's personal experience and personal experience, and it is also a special journal of her experiments. Li Lanni chose to be admitted to a mental hospital, in order to treat depression and to understand the real state of this special group of mentally ill patients, she has successively gone to two well-known psychiatric hospitals in the north and south of the industry - Guangzhou Hui'ai Hospital and Peking University Sixth Hospital for inpatient treatment.

In the book, on the one hand, she describes her experience of seeking medical treatment and hospitalization, how to fight against worldly concepts and diseases, and show the mental process of a mentally ill patient who is tortured and unwilling to give up through the physical and psychological changes in the process of seeking medical treatment. On the other hand, a large number of pages are devoted to describing the survival and current situation of patients who are hospitalized at the same time, as well as relatives and medical care, in order to explore the causes of each individual's disease in a deeper way, introduce the current situation of psychotherapy, and hope for more scientific and effective psychotherapy in the future.

Li Lanni read and referred to a large number of relevant books in China and the West, in which she reviewed the century-old history of the establishment of psychiatric hospitals in China, and suggested various tortuous paths and development concepts related to the treatment of mental illness. In particular, the medical knowledge carefully selected by "half an expert" Li Lanni can solve some things that everyone is afraid of and solve some confusion. Modern people's emotional problems and psychological hidden dangers can reflect a certain shadow in it.

Writing used to break me down, but readers gave me cognitive therapy

Today' Li Lanni and when she published "No One in the Wilderness" in 2008, the biggest change is that she has the ability to feel love, accept love, and transmit love.

Back in time, Laney Lee suffered from cancer in 1988 and underwent multiple surgeries and chemotherapy. In early 2003, the diagnosis of depression made Li Lanni feel that it was more difficult to live than to die. In 2003-2005, she completely closed herself off, didn't accept anyone's concern or sympathy, and had a sad and colorless view of everything. When writing "NoBody in the Wilderness", she put herself and herself out, and she was so miserable that she could not write for several degrees, wrote that she was afraid of seeing the computer, and she had drilled under the sofa, into the closet, and drilled into everything that could be drilled to escape.

After "NoBody in the Wilderness", she slowly came into contact with many readers. Some readers, who also find her phone through various ways, are reluctant to disclose their identity, but quietly ask about the way of depression treatment, and the most common question is: "What is the treatment without seeing a doctor or taking medicine?" On the Internet, another reader asked: "Is Teacher Li Lanni still alive?" What happened to Teacher Li? "

Depressed people are particularly sensitive, and the reader's attention tells her that it makes sense for you to survive. Li Lanni also found that her situation did not get worse, so she was slowly inspired, and the second book wrote about the dog doctor who accompanied her, telling the efforts of her and her pet dog Zhou Lele to cross the huge gap between each other.

When it came to writing the third book, "WildLand Aura", although there were still extremely difficult moments, Li Lanni knew that she had to finish this book, and her writing might be a popular science with temperature. Writing superimposed on a depressive episode can break me down, but reader attention and support gives me a psychologically cognitive therapeutic role. I always felt that living was very meaningless, afraid that I would live a negative number, and the feedback from readers made me feel that it was meaningful to write this, and to help those patients who were suddenly frightened by depression - just like the original me, I didn't know where to go for help, and there was no one in the wilderness. "

From the secret to the ability to empathize, people's love has become richer

Li Lanni's "Wilderness Trilogy" was published by the People's Literature Publishing House, and Pan Kaixiong and Zang Yongqing, the two presidents before and after her, as well as her editor-in-charge Liu Zhi, have always protected her very well." The Humanities Society is a place with positive literary energy, where the people are pure and bright, which provides me with a lot of nutrition. I can write so bravely, without scruples and worries, and it is also because of the Humanities Society, they are my backing. "

In September 2021, the People's Literature Publishing House held an online press conference on "WildLands", which was watched by nearly 200,000 people online. At the seminar half a month later, Li Jingze, a member of the party group and vice chairman of the China Writers Association, commented: "As far as I can remember, I have not seen such a non-fiction way to deal with mental hospitals or groups of mentally ill people. This kind of writing, this kind of understanding of mental illness, is particularly important and precious. In this field, Li Lanni has done an important pioneering work, and she is using her life to speak for a group. "

Li Lanni said that so many readers pay attention to it, indicating that our society is progressing, and thirty or forty years ago, people thought about the issue of food and clothing. The understanding of mental illness is almost a blank piece of paper, and it is secretive, not to mention how to save yourself and save people. Nowadays, people in society have improved their ideological realm and level of civilization, and their love for others has become richer, and they have the understanding and concern for the field of mental illness and the ability to empathize.

At the end of the interview, the reporter asked Li Lanni if she had a new writing plan. She kept saying, "Draw a pause, and resolutely not write." The 'Wilderness Trilogy' was published, existed, and perhaps that was my value. "
