When people in the world look back at history today, the whole world says: "There are two and a half saints in China."
Among them, Zeng Guofan, one of the "Three Masters of the Late Qing Dynasty", was known as the Semi-Holy Great Confucian who "became an immortal, an official, a general, and a perfect person".
What about the other two saints? One is Confucius, the founding father of Confucianism, while the other is Wang Yangming, a representative figure of Ming Dynasty psychology.
Wang Yangming, real name Wang Yun, later changed his name to Wang Shouren, known as Mr. Bo'an, a native of Yuyao, Zhejiang, and a master of mind science in the Ming Dynasty.
Legend has it that when Wang Yangming was young, during his private schooling, mr. Wang asked, "What is the first in the world?" Wang Yangming blurted out, "The only thing in the world is to become a saint." From here, it is not difficult to see his pursuit and realm of life that is different from ordinary people.
Wang Yangming's life was full of ups and downs, but his teachings were rigorous; he was born in Shuxiangmendi, and his family was profoundly learned, proficient in the three schools of Confucianism, Taoism, and Interpretation; and he was able to penetrate his own school and create the study of the mind.
He was both a courtier and a fierce general, an official to the bingbu Shangshu, and was a great Confucian ruler in history who really had a literary and martial strategy, and from the perspective of his life and merits, he even surpassed Confucius in some aspects.
Yangming Xinxue had a profound impact on future generations. Zeng Guofan once said: "Wang Yangming has been correcting the old atmosphere and creating new trends all his life." After the defeat of Taiwan, former Kuomintang chairman Chiang Kai-shek, out of admiration for Wang Yangming's teachings, even renamed Caoshan to Yangmingshan.
Harvard University professor Tu Weiming even asserted: "The 21st century will be the century of Wang Yangming's thought."
It can be seen that Wang Yangming's influence on future generations is no less than that of the sage Kong Meng.
Chinese civilization has three immortals: morality, meritorious service, and speech. The reason why Wang Yangming was able to live with the former Saint Kong Qiu was because he adhered to these three points all his life, and was later known as the "True Three Immortals".

Lide: Sidley is not lost
Throughout his life, Wang Yangming was "to his conscience." He lost his mother at the age of thirteen, but still insisted on repaying the world's great love.
When he was a teenager studying, Wang Yangming asked the teacher what was the first thing in life, and according to the Confucian idea of "learning and excelling", the teacher replied: "Read and ascend to the first." But he retorted to the teacher: "The first thing in life should be to learn to be a sage." The teacher was extremely shocked and looked at him from then on.
It can be seen that Wang Yangming has great virtue since he was a child, and has pursued "sages" in life, which is very different from the utilitarian goals of the vast majority of people in the world.
Just as the so-called "selflessness in the heart of the world is wide", with great love in the heart, Sheng De is not lost, Wang Yangming "knows and acts are one", and he has been cultivating people with virtue all his life.
Wang Yangming once said: "There is no insurmountable person in the world." He always believed that virtue was a compulsory lesson in dealing with the world, and he had never been influenced by the world and had become a follower, leading by example unswervingly and educating the people with virtue.
It is rumored that Wang Yangming was demoted to Guizhou and encountered robbers, but instead of carrying out bloody suppression, he preached morality to the robbers. And the robbers who are full of evil can't listen to it at all, and ironically say: "You say that everyone has a conscience, but we are unforgiving, and our evil deeds are shocking, do we still have a conscience?" ”
In order to prove that the robbers still had a conscience, Wang Yangming began to order the robbers to undress until only their pants were left, at which time the robbers refused to take anything off, and pleaded: "It is too shameful to strip naked, and it can no longer be taken off." At this point, Wang Yangming smiled happily and said, "Shame is conscience, and even if you have great evil, your conscience has not been completely destroyed." ”
In the end, the robbers were finally indoctrinated and renounced evil and followed good.
Although Wang Yangming was not very successful in his career, he has always been able to uphold the "conscience" to deal with things, govern for officials, and treat robbers as he did, focusing on indoctrination and winning the love and respect of the people.
In fact, the core of Wang Yangming Lide is nothing more than "the unity of knowledge and action", and if we want to achieve "unity of knowledge and action", then we should understand two meanings:
1. What is "done" is what is "known". As the saying goes, "It should not be called ugly, and it should not be called evil." To verify a person's cognitive level and whether the other party's "knowledge" and "deeds" are contrary, we must stand on an objective standpoint and look at his behavior, rather than just listening to one side of the story.
2. "Knowing" and "doing" should be synchronized, in other words, "understanding in the heart", and "seeing in action". But it is not a purely impulsive "one thought, one action is followed", nor is it to slowly understand the reason and then put it into practice. Rather, when the mind is moved, it is necessary to make arrangements and put them into practical action.
Li De Shu people are not only clear in their hearts about good and evil, but also clear in their hearts, who use practical actions to set an example and can educate others. Wang Yangming used his life to set a good example for the society and future generations.

Meritorious service: Achievement does not live
Wang Yangming once said: "The harm is greater than the merit of nagging the heavens, the sin is no more than the good of concealing others, the evil is not deeper than the ability to attack, and the humiliation is not more than the shame of forgetting oneself." ”
This means that the greatest calamity is to attribute the merits of heaven to oneself, the heaviest crime is to cover up the good deeds and merits of others, there is no deeper evil than to compete with subordinates, and the greatest shame is that oneself is not ashamed.
He believes that if all four things are occupied, disaster will not be far away.
Most of the able ministers of the Ming Dynasty were both literate and martial, and Wang Yangming was no exception, "in the midst of strategizing, winning thousands of miles away", comparable to the generals, who made countless contributions in his life.
For example, in the thirteenth year of Zhengde, the people's rebellion that pacified Jiangxi for decades was suppressed; in the fourteenth year of Zhengde, the rebellion of Zhu Chenhao, the king of Ningning, the seventh year of Jiajing, the rebellion of The Tuyao in southwest China and Tianzhou, and the bandits of the Broken Vine Gorge, there are too many to count.
Throughout history, most of the heroes can do this step, most of them are rich and powerful. But Wang Yangming was consistent, cautious and cautious.
Someone asked, "Is there any skill in using soldiers?" Wang Yangming replied, "Using soldiers and techniques, but the knowledge is pure, and the heart that is cultivated is not moving. ”
Wang Yangming was extremely humble, and he believed that being able to make meritorious deeds was not a clever skill in marching and fighting, but he had been insisting on doing his research and keeping his state of mind not moving.
The wisdom of people is almost the same, and the key to determining victory or defeat lies in whether this heart moves or does not move. If the usual learning is not in place, the situation will be chaotic, and the wisdom and courage of the wisdom in the rush will not come out of thin air, but because the usual learning is pure.
Wang Yangming was not a pedantic old scholar, and during the rebellion of the King of Pingning, he pretended to spread the word to the qin kings everywhere, claiming that the imperial court had a total of 160,000 elite soldiers to suppress the rebellion, but in fact he deliberately exaggerated the smoke used for deterrence.
When King Ning woke up and realized that the military plane had been delayed, Wang Yangming thus bought enough time for himself to gather a large army, and in the end, in fact, he only drew a total of 80,000 soldiers from the local government to suppress the rebellion.
During the battle, Wang Yangming constantly doubted the enemy and confused the enemy, and finally won more with less, repeatedly built up qigong, and quelled the rebellion without using a single soldier sent by the imperial court. However, after Wang Yangming made this great contribution, he was not rewarded by the imperial court, and he did not feel resentful, but instead retreated bravely and fell silent to keep his duties.
Life should have great ambitions and make unremitting efforts for them, but looking at the world's expectations, most of them are only for the sake of success and fame, and they have lost themselves.
In fact, we should understand that making a contribution is the pursuit of life, the most important thing is to achieve self-worth, and we must remember three points in the process:
1, to have the ability to act
Life is a cumulative process, and a person's final result depends on his efforts. Therefore, no matter who it is, it should have the enthusiasm to make continuous progress and deliberately cultivate their own ability.
2, to have the courage to make a decision
Water is impermanent, soldiers are impermanent, there is one mind, everything in the world will not be set in stone, rigid and conformist, only cocooned and self-bound. The root of success lies in ability and choice, learn to stick to the heart, be results-oriented, and make the right choice at the right time in order to achieve something.
3. Have the wisdom of fate
Greed for heaven is actually a big taboo for people, being a person who is eager to achieve quick success and short-term profit will damage merit, it is a kind of open-mindedness to be able to afford to put it down, and the state of mind that does not demand is always the dependence of the strong, so we should learn, do our best, and obey the mandate of heaven.

Promise: Remove evil for good
If it is only to have great virtue and can make great achievements, in fact, there are not a few people in history who can match Wang Yangming's achievements.
The reason why Wang Yangming became a saint is because he can not only make meritorious achievements, but also have great wisdom to govern and learn, become a family of his own and pass it on to future generations.
What is Wang Yangming's "psychology"? In fact, the study of the mind is not idealism, but on the contrary, it is adhering to Zhu Xi's "Zhizhi of Qualities", combined with the strengths of the Confucian Buddhist and Taoist families, and the doctrine of its own school is wang Yangming's long-term formation of Wang Yangming in combination with the reality of life, and it is materialistic.
Wang Yangming put forward the four-sentence teaching of the theory of mind: "There is no good and no disgusting body, and there are good and malicious movements." Knowing good and knowing evil is conscience, and removing evil for good is a special thing. ”
To the effect that there is no distinction between good and evil is just a shell, the act of good and evil is the reflection of spiritual activities, the discernment between good and evil is conscience, and the ability to promote good and eliminate evil is to know things.
In short, Wang Yangming believes that a person's behavior should contribute to society, and that gewu zhizhi should bring positive effects to future generations of society.
"Mind study" is his greatest contribution to future generations, and he spent his whole life studying this knowledge in order to realize the ideal of being a "sage" in his youth. This is Wang Yangming's "standing word."
Wang Yangming's father was a champion, an official to the official Shangshu, and he twice fell to the first, in the face of his father's comfort, he said: "You are ashamed of not ascending the first, and I am ashamed of not ascending the first but being annoyed by it", at this time it can be seen that he has a broad mind.
Wang Yangming's pragmatic spirit allows him to face all the disasters in life, and he can always maintain an objective and rational attitude and an open-minded and optimistic state of mind.
It is said that he was demoted to Guizhou Longchang for angering the eunuch Liu Jin, but instead of being discouraged, he lay in a coffin thinking about life, known in history as "Dragon Field Enlightenment"; after the rebellion of King Ning of Dingning, he was not rewarded because of the villains entering the court, and he also laughed and retreated. These are all manifestations of his spirit of "mind study", and how can a person with a sage in his heart suffer from worldly gains and losses?
Wang Yangming is not obsessed with personal gains and losses, he has dedicated his life to the study of the heart, and his attitude of governance is to be impartial, not empty, and straight to the middle way. He actively promoted the construction of the college, and set up a library to run schools, founding Longgang College and Yangming College.
Even when he was dying, Wang Yangming only said, "This heart is bright, and it is also true." It can be seen that he has a firm belief, can adhere to the "removal of evil for good", and truly achieves "the unity of knowledge and action". It is precisely because of this that he has achieved the "promise" of the three immortals.
Wang Yangming said in the "Record of Rebuilding the Study of Shanyin County": "The study of the fu saints is also the study of the heart." Learn to do your best. This means that the Confucian study of the sage is the study of the mind, and the fundamental purpose of studying the sage is to explore the truth that "the mind is the reason."
It is not easy to do things for people, but the heart is restless, asking for too much, and the heart is endless. In the final analysis, desire is the terminal disease of human nature, and the study of the mind is nothing more than awakening the original self in people's hearts, removing the false truth, seeing the nature of the mind, and doing our best with the Dao as the heavenly reason.
This is the three words of the mind that teach people: to the conscience. When there is a conscience within, it is clear; and conscience is now and externally harmonious. Conscience is the soul of the mind and the destination of the world.
The reason why Wang Yangming was able to become a saint is that he always aimed to be a "saint", explored the method of becoming a "saint" through various channels, and finally created yangming mind science, which was widely disseminated and brought light to the world.
