"In the past year, the epidemic, supply chain challenges, chip shortages, shipping difficulties and other issues have all caused trouble to automobile exports. But with the help of the Group, we have overcome all these problems. Recently, Yu De, assistant to the president of SAIC, general manager of the international business department of SAIC Group and general manager of SAIC International, said in an interview with the "Daily Economic News" reporter.

According to SAIC's internal data, in 2021, SAIC's cumulative sales in overseas markets exceeded 697,000 units, an increase of 78.9% year-on-year. Among them, the global delivery volume of MG brand exceeded 470,000 units (including the Chinese market).

After setting a new record for going to sea, SAIC motor also proposed a higher export target in 2022. Yu De revealed that SAIC Motor's overseas export target this year is to exceed 800,000 vehicles; of which mg brand overseas exports strive to reach the target of 500,000 to 600,000 vehicles.

Overseas marketing outlets have exceeded 1800

At present, in terms of overseas regional markets, SAIC Motor has 6 markets with a scale of 50,000 vehicles, namely Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the Americas, the Middle East, ASEAN and South Asia. Among them, SAIC's cumulative sales in the European market in 2021 will be about 70,000 vehicles.

The reporter learned that saicid's sales model in overseas markets is still a mixed model of general generation, direct sales and distributors. "In some countries, the market is relatively small, and SAIC May adopt the general generation model. In some countries, the market is large, so we consider the model of direct sales or distributors joining. Liu Xinyu, deputy general manager of SAIC International Europe, said, "Each operating model is determined according to the local market and consumer situation." The business model is just a way to improve efficiency, and you can sell your car in any way. At present, SAIC's overseas marketing service outlets have exceeded 1,800.

In fact, last year, SAIC's work on automobile exports was not easy. Factors such as the epidemic, high freight rates, and chip shortages have all become obstacles to car exports. Among them, the tight capacity of shipping has become an important factor restricting automobile exports.

"Shipping capacity is very tight, and even now it is difficult to find a cabin, both container space and ro-ro space. In the future, with the improvement of the overall scale of automobile exports in the mainland, it is already a trend for cars to go to sea. This puts forward new requirements for ship resources and the layout of global routes. Yu De said.

The reporter noted that in January this year, SAIC Motor announced the formal signing of an agreement with China State Shipbuilding Group, and CSSC Jiangnan Shipbuilding will "tailor" two LNG dual-fuel, low-carbon and environmentally friendly ocean-going vehicle carriers (ro-ro ships) with 7600 parking spaces for SAIC Group's Anji Logistics. "The volume of this parking space is also very large in the world, and the number of overseas routes of Anji Logistics is still increasing, which will provide a great boost to SAIC's next automobile export work." Yu De said.

The global car MG EH32 will be launched in the European market

It is worth noting that in SAIC's sales target of 800,000 vehicles this year, its sales target in the European market is 120,000 vehicles. If this task is accomplished, the European market will become the first overseas market for SAIC to achieve the 100,000-vehicle target.

The European market has always had strict requirements for the safety, environmental protection and durability of vehicles, which also poses challenges for independent brands to go to the European market. However, thanks to the high penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the European market and the support of new energy subsidy policies in various countries, Europe has also become the main battlefield for China's new energy vehicles to go to sea.

In order to achieve its sales target of 120,000 units, SAIC motor plans to tailor a new electric vehicle for the European market, the MG EH32.

Guan Yizhong, general manager of saic oil group's public relations department, revealed that SAIC motor began to consider launching a global car aimed at the European market three years ago. With SAIC's sales volume in overseas markets reaching a certain scale, Guan Yizhong believes that SAIC has reached the best time point for localization research and development in overseas markets.

"This car is a fist product of SAIC Group to integrate local advantageous resources and target the global market." After global market research, mg EH32 will be equipped with innovative technologies such as exclusive electric vehicle architecture, intelligent cockpit, intelligent driving, etc., to benchmark global safety standards. Yu De said.

It is understood that the design and development of MG EH32 is mainly responsible for SAIC Design, and the length of the car is about 4.2m ~ 4.3m. Yu De believes that although the length of this car does not meet the aesthetics of Chinese consumers, it caters to the needs of European consumers. Liu Xinyu, who is in charge of the European market at SAIC, is full of confidence in the future of the MG EH32, saying: "We believe that this car will be a hit in the European market, and at the same time drive SAIC's sales in the Chinese market to rise, and raise our sales to a new level." ”
