It is said that painters paint as a kind of enjoyment, painting is as charming as music and dance, and it is an elegant form of human expression. This is true, especially for the printmaker Gao Wei, painting allows him to enjoy the inspiration brought by color, the dashing ease of picture modeling, the soft change of using a knife as a paintbrush, and the emotional catharsis that language cannot express...

Gao Wei, a painter who grew up in the north and started a family in the north, came to Huizhou, a place praised by su Shi, a great literary hero. The beautiful landscape, the quaint humanities, and the industrious and hospitable Hakka family make him feel comfortable, needless to say, where the love is, the desire to create also comes. In the past three years in Huizhou, Gao Wei has created a number of prints that keep up with the times and reflect life.

Record the reflection of the times in the language of painting

Since 2020, the new crown pneumonia epidemic has touched everyone's heart, and in the process of fighting the epidemic with all its might, the retrograde with the heart of the world has become a hero who praises the praises of artists, and Gao Wei is no exception, and his painting "Faith" was born. The painting is thick and condensed, and the resolute and resolute eyes in the picture are composed and calm, as if telling people: "Don't be afraid! Have me! Have us! With our strong backing! In the middle of the picture, a group of sculpture-like medical workers, a pair of hands at the bottom holding out flying white pigeons, are telling people: "The danger will eventually pass, and the beauty will come!" Standing in front of this painting, people will feel full of strength, and firmly believe that the motherland we love will be safe and sound! The print printed by the painter using a carving knife instead of a paintbrush conveys Yin Yin's patriotic feelings and is presented to the viewer at a glance.

Artists can always keep up with the times, record the imprint of the times with the language of painting, and also integrate their own emotions into the picture to express the observation of society and the perception of life, and re-give the vitality of the times.

Gao Wei's paintings are not only records, he can also give people connotations of inspiration, such as the harmony between man and nature, the expression of beauty, the rendering of love, and the interpretation of love. "Listening to the Rain" and "Morning Mist" bring such enjoyment to the people who watch the paintings, and meet the needs of the viewers at both the visual and spiritual levels. Under the background of the scene that can be seen everywhere in Huizhou, there is a touch of red, the lines are rich and soft, the colors are bright, and they travel through time and space, freely, and come and go freely. The mind of the viewer will also settle down, thinking of becoming them, living that life as it is, and naturally consummating. Just as the so-called dark heart can never hold up a brilliant face, only if there is light in the chest, it will be colorful, and the painter's blade travels on the living beings, and it is soft to the extreme.

Creators who work tirelessly and diligently will always be rewarded handsomely. Not long ago, the student works tutored by Gao Wei were selected for the 7th East China Sea National Children's Print biennale in 2021, and they won this award for the first time, and their mood is indescribable. To this end, Gao Wei created the work "Dream of Wings", which expresses a teacher's love for students. Yellow is the color of pride, the embodiment of nobility, symbolizing the sun, wisdom and honor, pointing to the pursuit of hope, the painter boldly uses the bright yellow series, the wings are figurative into large, dense blocks, faces, lines, in thick or light colors, the warm and unrestrained feelings are in full view. An eagle that spreads its wings and flies high, so different, the author uses calm black to reflect, not only to capture the viewer's sight, but also to balance the picture, so that people can see the expectations of a teacher for students, hoping that they will fly higher and go further on the road of life in the future.

Being close to life is even more impressive

Because of a volunteer teaching experience, Gao Wei created the work "Pan Pan". In this work, Gao Wei uses realistic techniques to conceive and create a cute northern girl from the flat perspective of two-dimensional space. In the work, the little girl came to the edge of the village, closed her eyes, folded her hands, prayed sincerely, wished her grandparents good health and longevity, wished her parents who worked far away to take care of themselves and returned as soon as possible, and the little brother was obedient and sensible, helping herself more... The picture is vivid and touching, and people can't help but pray along with it, wishing the little girl a wish. The heart of benevolence and kindness flow from the end of the painter's brush to the viewer's heart, and also see the gentle feelings of a painter.

The most touching themes of artistic creation are often the most ordinary things that are closest to life. These subjects that are used by artists to express are not specific, as long as they can trigger the emotions of life perception, they are the basis for the artist's inspiration and performance, and the choice of focus is permeated by the painter's thoughts. Excellent artists can show us an infinite spiritual world through limited pictures and make us think, which is the charm of art.

Gao Wei told reporters: "The painting is a mirror at the end, a comprehensive refraction of the artist. Indeed, all painting techniques exist only to express emotions, and real paintings can bring aesthetic pleasure to people, reflect social reality, reproduce the beauty of nature, and show the true emotions of painters. Painting without emotion loses its true soul. Although the painting is not a text, it is also a kind of pictorial record, and behind the painting is the dialogue between the painter and the viewer, and also the interaction between the painter himself and his heart. With the continuous improvement of cultural accumulation and artistic accomplishment, Gao Wei's paintings are also like old wine, becoming more mellow and moving.
