As the pinnacle of classical novels in the mainland, "Dream of Red Mansions" is a household name. But do you know which flowers correspond to the twelve hairpins of Jinling in "Dream of Red Mansions", and how their printmaking images are made?
Lingyun Street Community School in Xuhui District recently joined hands with the Chemical Art Research Center of East China University of Science and Technology to launch the second phase of the 2024 Art Family Day "Reading Masterpieces, Discipline Art", which takes the printmaking art and incense culture of the twelve hairpins of Jinling in "Dream of Red Mansions" as the main line, leading parents and children into a new world of Red Mansions.
"It is the tradition of Chinese culture to use flowers and trees as a metaphor for people, such as Qu Yuan Yonglan, Tao Yuan Ming Zanju, Lin Hejing Mei Wife Hezi, Ouyang Xiusong Peony, Zhou Dunyi as a love lotus...... "With the explanation of Professor Wang Limin of East China University of Science and Technology, everyone gradually understands that the original use of flowers and trees as a metaphor for people is a common artistic technique in mainland classical literature.
Among the twelve hairpins of Jinling, Lin Daiyu represents hibiscus, Xue Baochai symbolizes peony, and Jia Yuanchun represents epiphany...... These different types of flowers hint at the different personalities and fates of the female characters in the novel, each of them with different aromatic characteristics, and also reflect the aesthetics and values of women from different social classes at that time. At the scene, Wang Limin combined the principles of art and chemistry to lead parent-child families to use alcohol, essence, fixative, pigment and other materials to create hibiscus perfume and peony perfume corresponding to Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai respectively.
As a visual art form produced by printing means, printmaking can not only vividly show the appearance and characteristics of the characters in the book, but also deepen the reader's cognition of classical literature and deepen the public's understanding of artistic aesthetics. During the event, Wu Xiaoshen, a famous printmaking artist, explained the basic knowledge and production principles of printmaking, and took the two characters of Lin Daiyu and Sister Qiao as the prototype, leading parent-child families to experience the process of printmaking, so that traditional art can be reborn in interactive practice.
This activity combines classical literature with modern life in a simple way, edutainment, and effectively promotes the inheritance and development of traditional culture, and is well received and loved by parent-child families. "I hope to lead my children to participate in more activities like this in the future, which I find very meaningful. One parent said.
