Brief introduction to the artifact
In 1985, Qian Xuesen won the special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award
The National Science and Technology Progress Award is one of the five major awards in the field of science and technology in mainland China, the establishment of the award aims to reward citizens and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress, and is reviewed once a year, divided into two levels: first and second prizes, but special prizes can be awarded to those with particularly significant contributions. The first National Science and Technology Progress Award was reviewed and awarded in 1985. The project "Liquid Surface-to-Surface Strategic Weapons and Launch Vehicles" won the special prize, certificate number 85-KG7-T-001-1.
Qian Xuesen participated in a lot of work on the project, so he was nominated for the award. But he repeatedly humbled and declined, hoping to leave the chance to win the award to other project participants. The jury awarded him the award after comprehensive consideration. After Qian Xuesen found out, he said: "I made it clear that I didn't want this award, but they still lined me up." In this way, the chief engineer of this project, Tu Shouyi, has become the second award-winner, and he is not the only one who is affected, all the award-winning people are affected, this is not appropriate!"
