The Royal Geographical Society's 100-year-old Everest Adventure Photography Exhibition, Everest: Ascent to Glory, in collaboration with the Bowers Museum in Orange County, will officially open on 12 February.

This exciting special exhibition of classic stages will take visitors on an epic century-long journey of the Everest expedition, experiencing the triumphs and sorrows of mankind intertwined at the top of the snowy mountain in the process of conquering the top of the world.

The "Everest Adventure: Climbing the Peak of Glory" exhibition features more than 20 original and precious historical artifacts, including climbing ropes found next to the remains of George Mallory and the oxygen device used for the first time for high-altitude climbing, as well as more than 60 spectacular and exciting video works documenting the glorious history of the Everest adventure.

In the center of the exhibition hall, a model of Mount Everest produced by the Royal Geographical Society, John Noel's re-infused film Everest Epic (1924), will bring the audience an immersive feeling.

Shi Liuxiuzhi, Chinese Chairman of The Bauer Museum, said: The Bauer Museum is very honored to cooperate with the Royal Geographical Society of the United Kingdom again to jointly hold this rare and significant stage special exhibition. 2021 marks the centenary of man's first climb to Mount Everest and the year of the new crown virus escalation, and at the beginning of the new year of 2022, the Bauer Museum hopes that this exhibition will inspire people to cheer up their spirits and actively fight the epidemic.

In addition, Shi Liu Xiuzhi stressed that the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, are in full swing, and Olympic athletes are competing on ice and snow. Meanwhile, for the first time, the Bower Museum is welcoming american audiences with precious images of early explorers climbing the snow-covered Mount Everest.

Peter Keller, director of the Bauer Museum, who is an avid adventure lover himself, said that adventure can meet new people, learn new cultures and explore new lands, which is the meaning of the "Everest Adventure: Climbing the Peak of Glory" exhibition.

Inspector Katrina Foley of Orange County came to see the exhibition on the same day, saying, "The 'Everest Adventure: Climbing the Peak of Glory' exhibition is very meaningful, showing how human beings can overcome adversity, aim at the target, and reach the top. We have also experienced many challenges over the past two years or so, and it is time to pick up our spirits. ”

Curator Mark Bustamante introduced that in addition to introducing history, the exhibition also shows the stories of tibetans and unsung heroes such as Nepal's Sherpas. Because "these people can't do this without the Sherpas." ”

The Everest Adventure: Climbing the Peak of Glory will run until August 28. The exhibition also featured Wade Davis as a guest curator. Davis is an adventurer and one of eight resident explorers at the National Geographic Society, an anthropologist, writer, cinematographer, and filmmaker.

In order to give back to the community, the board of directors of the Bauer Museum has specially changed this exhibition into an exhibition with a general ticket to enrich the cultural life of the people in the post-epidemic era.

Exhibition Introduction

"Everest Adventure: Climbing to the Top of Glory" is the latest exhibition in which the Bauer Museum has collaborated once again with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) (Londo). Guest curator Wade Davis is the author of "Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest," which won the Samuel Johnson Prize in 2012, one of the most prestigious nonfiction writing awards.

The exhibition brings together photographs, images and precious artifacts from the first human climb to Mount Everest in 1921 to the successful summit in 1953, presenting the feats of human beings who first began to climb this sacred mountain, which Tibetans call "Mother Goddess of the World", as well as the heroic figures and deeds that emerged from the process of conquering the top of the world a hundred years ago, as well as the continuous improvement and improvement of technology and equipment.

For Great Britain, the early 20th century was a mixed blessing, first with antarctic expeditions defeated by Norwegian Roald Amundsen and then an unprecedented world war. After experiencing the horrors of the french trenches, in order to escape the country that made them feel strange, British explorers set their sights on the world's highest peak, "Everest".

As the saying goes: failure is the mother of success! In the process of constantly summarizing the experiences and lessons of predecessors, Everest Adventure has gradually improved and gradually developed. The first expedition in 1921 surveyed and drew a road map to the summit; the introduction of oxygen supply devices the following year gave explorers hope of reaching the summit; in 1933 the use of radio allowed climbers to communicate with each other for the first time; it was not until 1953 that New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese guide Tenzing Norgay first stood on top of the world. It became the first recorded summit of Mount Everest in human history.
