The Official Website of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported on February 11 (Picture 2): In Ottawa, protests against compulsory vaccinations have been three weeks old and have spread to border towns. One observer said that "the window against compulsory vaccinations is closing peacefully" by ending it.

OnTario Premier Doug Ford declared the province "a state of emergency" as protesters continued to block parts of downtown Ottawa and blocked a key cross-border supply route, Windsor's Ambassador Bridge to Detroit, the report said.

While the move is largely administrative, it gives authorities the power to issue new orders punishing those who block and obstruct the flow of goods, people and services along critical infrastructure lines. Jack Rozdilsky, an associate professor of disaster and emergency management at York University, said there was still a way to end the crisis peacefully.

But he also said, "The longer this situation lasts, the more dangerous it will move in a more dangerous direction." Essentially, it would force the authorities to intervene."

The report said that the way the police have handled the protests so far has been heavily criticized by public opinion. But police say the situation on the ground is sometimes too volatile to make arrests. In Ottawa, city police arrested only 25 people directly or indirectly linked to the protests.

Lozdielski said there was a real risk of casualties, which could be the reason for the police's reluctance to enforce existing laws and regulations. In Ottawa, he said, protesters entered their houses, offices or camped near businesses, and authorities lacked clear intelligence on the dangerous goods they were carrying, creating a fire hazard. "There is a risk that the authorities will make the wrong choice to end this crisis" and "what the police have to do is to make the best choice in the worst of choices," he said. He added: "There have been criticisms of the police's slow movements being frustrating, but once the operation starts to unfold quickly, something worse could happen."

According to another CBC report on the same day (Photo 3): On Friday afternoon, about 300 protesters gathered outside the Legislative Council building in New Brunswick under close police surveillance.

Many people carried signs and flags, and almost no one wore masks, the report said. There were sporadic trumpet shouts, and others sang the hymn of "freedom.".

Despite brief traffic disruptions, police were able to direct vehicles throughout the afternoon to smooth down downtown streets as the flow of people on Queen Street increased.

As police immediately blocked Queen Street in front of the Legislation Building, the convoy was confined to the streets near the city centre, including St. John's Street next to the Legislation Building. According to a tweet from the Fredericton Police Department, the parade vehicle does not include any transport trucks because police were prevented from entering the city centre if the driver was unable to show a valid pass.

Roger Brown, the city's Fredericton Police Chief, said police were ready to fight back, setting up barricades to prevent vehicles from entering areas around the legislature, while setting up checkpoints to stop trucks that could not explain the need to enter the city for commercial reasons. Brown also said other police officers from across the province would be called into the city as needed to assist.
