Fan Mengzhen can be described as a perfect interpretation of the "slash youth": Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Oxford, co-founder of UniPal Solutions Consulting, "retrograde" on the frontline of COVID-19, founder of the Dream Come True Foundation, one of the youngest judicial practitioners in the history of the United States, senior real estate sales in the United Kingdom and the United States, investors, pro bono legal service volunteers, audiobook dubbing enthusiasts...
He not only focuses on scientific research, but also has a passion for charity; he has dug the first pot of gold from the overseas real estate industry and devoted himself to the consulting industry. When so many identities are brought together at the same time, and they can be easily switched between different fields, Fan Mengzhen's stories and experiences are destined to be richer than many of his peers. For him, these identities are not just solidified labels, but on the one-way line of life, by constantly unlocking more "possibilities", and achieving a variety of achievements.

“
Science and law are my two main tones
”
The term "slash youth" originally derived from The Dual Occupation by New York Times columnist Michael Alber, and it refers to people who are not satisfied with a single career lifestyle, but have multiple occupations and identities. Like most slash youth, Fan Meng's real accumulation is gradual over time, and when looking back on how to become a slash youth, he does not hesitate to use the words "science" and "law" to talk about his unique career trajectory. He believes that "science" and "law" have a lot in common: science is the law of nature, and law is the rule by which society works.
Fan Mengzhen attended Shanghai Hua Normal University Second Affiliated High School in high school, and as early as high school, he was a participant in the biology and chemistry Olympiad double discipline competition. The experience of the competition made him naturally choose a biochemistry-related major in college, engaged in DNA nanorobot research, from Emory University to Oxford University DNA sequencing research, Fan Mengzhen admitted that he was glad that his scientific research path has been relatively coherent and smooth. His paper on masks and COVID-19 prevention, published in The Lancet Sub-journal The Lancet Respiratory Medicine in March 2020, has garnered 1,000 citations for his personal achievement. Thanks to emory University's undergraduate education of both arts and sciences, in order to better understand the business world, Fan Mengzhen accidentally entered the real estate industry, and after obtaining the US real estate license in 2015, in order to better handle the legal needs of customers, Fan Mengzhen obtained the Notary Public license of the American notary public in that year, becoming one of the youngest judicial practitioners in the history of the United States.

In Fan Mengzhen's view, the experience of the real estate industry and judicial practice in the United States not only enabled him to accumulate capital, but also laid the foundation for commercial and legal practice. So in addition to his research, he began to play a role in business start-up projects, and UniPal Solutions Consulting was born. UniPal Solutions Consulting is committed to providing high-quality consulting services for global manufacturing companies to develop in China, and to promote cross-border cooperation in business innovation between China and the world. Today, UniPal Solutions has helped many domestic and foreign auto companies to achieve satisfactory market value increases.
In addition, Fan Mengzhen is also actively involved in the work of "telling Chinese stories well" overseas. In 2018, Fan Mengzhen hosted the inaugural Uk-China Children's Cultural Festival at the Sheldonian Theatre at Oxford University. In 2019, Fan Mengzhen hosted the Oxbridge Youth Forum Roundtable on "70 Years of Glory – Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China" at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University, and interviewed Professor Fu Xiaolan, a Chinese academician of the British Academy of Social Sciences. In 2021, Fan Mengzhen was invited to participate in the preparation and administration of the 7th International Young Financial Scholars Summit hosted by Hsbc Business School of Peking University (UK Campus).

Explore more efficient philanthropic models
The "Dream Come True Foundation", which bears its name, also represents Fan Mengzhen's practice of social responsibility and his attitude towards "innovative" charity.
"Although the total amount of money funded by charity projects in China has exceeded that of any Western country except the United States, few people in China may treat charity as if it were a management company and strive for excellence." Many people involved in philanthropy may simply regard charity as 'giving love', often ignoring the actual effect. Fan Mengzhen said. Unlike traditional philanthropy, Fan Mengzhen combines his own experience and is committed to building more targeted and efficient charity projects. The Dream Come True Foundation has set up different forms of scholarship programs in science, law and finance, aiming to bring positive energy to China and the world through the social impact project of educational charity. For example, the "Dream Creator" Scholarship, which cooperates with the Moment Venture Capital Circle, receives a full prize every year to fund 4-6 young leaders to participate in 7 days and 7 nights of intensive venture capital training in the 36Kr Fund. In the training camp, "Dream Creator" participates in the training of finance, business and law, and communicates with star mentors in the field of venture capital. "I hope that they can become the future leaders of the track, with their own understanding, spread the influence of business for good, and spread more positive social energy." Fan Mengzhen said.
In terms of scientific public welfare, in 2019, Fan Mengzhen donated an OT-2 automated biological experiment platform produced in the United States to his alma mater in the high school, which is an automated scientific research equipment with the concept of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things, and in the first time after the outbreak of the epidemic in 2020, under the initiative of Fan Mengzhen, this equipment was donated to the nucleic acid kit production unit designated by the National Health Commission to solve the urgent need for the production of anti-epidemic diagnostic products. Regarding the original intention of this equipment to be donated to his alma mater in high school, Fan Mengzhen mentioned that he wanted to screen out outstanding talents who were more talented and tenacious and more aware of future scientific research through the most cutting-edge scientific research equipment, and guided them to interpret the latest scientific research concepts and enjoy their careers on the road of scientific exploration. "I'm based on a long-termist consideration. In fact, I do not expect them to use this most cutting-edge equipment to make scientific research results at the high school level, but I hope that they will use these devices to contact the latest ideas and enter higher education with this valuable experience and way of thinking, so as to help them better engage in scientific research in the future. Fan Mengzhen said.

In the new year, the Dream Come True Foundation plans to set up online and offline public lectures and forums in cooperation with 36Kr in addition to the scholarship program, so as to benefit more outstanding young people and enable more people to realize their dreams through high-quality knowledge dissemination.

Dialogue with Fan Mengzhen
We understand that you now have many identities and wear several positions, what is the specific part of your current daily work?
Fan Mengzhen: I currently have a lot of time scheduled for COVID-19 testing, genetic sequencing, and cancer-related research. In addition, I have been involved in consulting at Unipal Solutions and Ridgetop Research; I have also worked on pro bono pro bono legal aid, ethics for candidates in the Bar Exam, and the Dream Come True Foundation's scholarship program, Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's highest honor for undergraduates, and my undergraduate alma mater, Emory The University's undergraduate admission interviews and other selection work. As a slash youth, time management is a key competency. Some of the work I do does does not have a direct monetary reward, but I am happy to bring more positive energy to society.
As a young scientist, which of your published results are you most proud of? What is your favorite part of your research work?
Fan Mengzhen: I studied DNA nanorobots at Emory University as an undergraduate, and I had the privilege of publishing a paper in Nature Nanotechnology, a sub-journal of Nature, at the beginning of my scientific career. I worked on gene sequencing and cancer screening techniques at Oxford University, and I did COVID-19 research during the pandemic, publishing a paper in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. In addition, I also study the application of Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of cancer. I'm most proud of the fact that I've received 500+ citations a year early in my research career.
My favorite scientific research work is still in the high school alma mater Shanghai East China Normal University Second Affiliated High School research on human life expectancy, every time I recall this green years, it will inspire me on the road of scientific research not to forget the original intention, pioneering and innovative, through scientific exploration for the society to create positive energy.
What qualities do the scholarship programs of the Dream Come True Foundation generally value most in the selection of funding recipients?
Fan Mengzhen: We have a special interpretation of the definition of excellence. We do not only choose those traditionally defined elites with elite backgrounds in prestigious schools, but also favor outstanding young people who come from a cold background but work hard. It is hoped that students from different backgrounds can provide a platform to communicate together, make progress together, and guide them to shine in their respective fields.
What are Unipal Solutions consulting's future plans?
Fan Mengzhen: In 2022, we will develop "meta-universe", "blockchain" and NFT-related businesses. I think that in the future, people will not only pursue material and cultural satisfaction, but also digital, informatized, and high-tech experiences will greatly enhance national happiness and quality of life, so I think this will be the outlet of the future and the direction of Unipal Solutions layout.
