For the Kuomintang army, Tang Yao was a very unlucky one.

In April 1949, just before the People's Liberation Army liberated Nanjing, Tang Yao, then chief of staff of the Kuomintang Army General Command, led the organs and troops under his jurisdiction to flee to Guangzhou. With the arrival of the People's Liberation Army soldiers in Guangzhou, Tang Yao fled to Qujing, Yunnan, before the liberation of Guangzhou.

Tang Yao originally wanted to continue to resist in Yunnan, but soon Long Yun electrified the whole country and announced the Yunnan Uprising. The areas under the kuomintang's control in Yunnan have shrunk even further.

Long Yun's uprising made it urgent for the Kuomintang to appoint another military commander in the Yunnan region. Originally, Chiang Kai-shek wanted Gu Zhutong to go to Yunnan, but Gu Zhutong felt that Yunnan was too dangerous, and if one was accidentally captured by the People's Liberation Army, it would be trouble. So Gu Zhutong forcibly ceded this task to Tang Yao.

Just as the so-called officials and senior officials crushed people to death, and Chiang Kai-shek was also worried about Gu Zhutong's safety, Tang Yao was very reluctantly appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the army and concurrently served as the chief of staff of the army, thus supervising the military and politics of Yunnan.

But for Tang Yao, what he wanted was not to be promoted, but to flee to Taiwan as soon as possible.

Therefore, it did not take long for Tang Yao to find an excuse and flee to Taiwan by plane.

But when Chiang Kai-shek learned of this news, he was instantly angry. Chiang Kai-shek believed that there were still many troops in Yunnan, and if properly commanded, they could still stand firm, so Chiang Kai-shek ordered Tang Yao to return to Yunnan immediately, and for this reason Chiang Kai-shek also controlled Tang Yao's family.

Under Chiang Kai-shek's orders and persecution, Tang Yao, who had only fled to Taiwan for a few days, could only return to Yunnan helplessly. Tang Yao, who returned to Yunnan, has never cared about other affairs, he is only concerned about the safety of Mengzi Airport. In his opinion, as long as the airport is in his hands, then he can flee to Taiwan at any time.

But what he did not expect was that the People's Liberation Army also noticed the Mengzi airfield and quickly launched an attack. What he did not expect was that the People's Liberation Army occupied mengzi airport in only one night.

Tang Yao was momentarily confused, and after reacting, he fled again.

But this time he was not so lucky, and how long it had been in the United States, he had been captured by the People's Liberation Army in Yuanjiang, Yunnan. He also became the highest-ranking Kuomintang officer captured by the People's Liberation Army in the Liberation War.

In addition, if Gu Zhutong had gone to Yunnan, perhaps it would have been Gu Zhutong who would have been captured.
