The Rockets completed a deal with the Celtics before the trade deadline, which consisted of:
1. Rockets received: Dennis Schroeder, Enes Friedman and Bruno Fernando
2. Celtics Received: Daniel Theis
According to reliable sources, the Rockets traded inside big center Daniel Theis to the Boston Celtics ahead of Friday's trade deadline, with Dennis Schroeder, who won only a veteran contract. His contract will expire at the end of the season, with the goal of saving money.
According to ESPN's Adrian Vojnarovsky, the Rockets also acquired Enes Friedman and Bruno Fernando to balance the deal's salary. Although the Rockets quickly said they would cut both of them.
In order to finally reach a deal, the Houston Rockets had to give up two players to trade all three of the Celtics' new players. According to Jonathan Fagan of the Houston Chronicle, the players to be cut will be Armony Brooks and DJ Augustine.
The Rockets signed free agent Theis in 2022, but the rapid rise of rookie bigman Alperen Shinkin and Christian Wood's outperformance in the center position have made it difficult for Theis to play.
The Thesis have ceased to be regular players in the Houston Rockets' rotation lineup since late November, and it doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team like the Rockets to keep a veteran center who can't play with a salary of nearly $9 million per season.
However, Theis's defensive prowess was not bad, attracting the Celtics to reintroduce him. According to statistics, Theis can average 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 22.5 minutes per game, shooting 46.9% from the field.
Schroeder, 28, is a 6-foot-3-inch guard who averaged 14.4 points and 4.2 assists per 29.2 minutes per game and shot 44.0 percent from the field, including 34.9 percent from three-point range.
On the face of it, players like Schroeder don't seem to fit a rebuilding team like the Houston Rockets, which need to develop young guards like Kevin Potter Jr., Jaylen Green and Josh Christopher. With his contract about to expire, the Rockets, who are more suited to rebuild, free up pay space.
However, if Schroeder can stay next season, one possibility is that fellow veteran defender Eric Gordon could experience a more serious foot injury than he currently has. Then Schroeder can take Gordon's place, and Then Gordon will be traded quickly.
